Question about Sony STR-DE625

Surround sound distortion

Hello. I have a Sony STR-K740P hooked to surround sound. I recently noticed that the sound is distorted in two of the rear speakers. It doesn't happen all the time, only on certain channels - those airing surround I suppose. I keep the speaker setting in "NORM.SURR." mode, as this seems to have generated the best output in the past. Do receivers commonly go out? Can it be cleaned for better performance? Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

Re: Surround sound distortion

Receivers like this will incorrectly decode rear channel audio and pass it on to the rear channels as distorted audio. Make sure the source being used really has rear channel information encoded into it. It could have other issues but check this first.

Humming noise through surround sound

This a problem of input grounding, the cable input is already loose or crack solder that why you hear a hum or distorted sound because not properly grounded it is a loose contact already thats why also is need to warm up and it will come.First change the cables with a new one with identical size and value then if problem still exist open the back cover ,when open look for the cable input connection parts joints reworks or resolder all soldered joints there .Then checks if it works then cover the unit.If you have no knowledge of electronics dont attempt to open to avoid electric shock.Find a electronics repairman or bring this to a authorized electronics repair shop maybe it cost you only $50.

Good luck;

My surround rear spks dont work

The rear speaker decoding has to be enabled for them to function, regardless of the media. Enter the speaker setup menu and choose "yes" for the rear surround speaker decoding.

No sound from rear speakers during test tone usng Sony STR-DE475

I had this problem last night.

To solve it, you can reset the amp by:

1) Put the receiver on stand-by
2) Hold down "MODE" button and press on button
3) "S.F. CLR" appears in the display and surround is back on.

Good luck

Just hooked up Coax cable; now talking is barely audible

is the center speaker turned up in the reciever speaker settings? each speaker can be adjusted to a level that is higher or lower or all the same as the rest. also is the dolby digital turned on in the reciever settings? and changing the surround sound pre set sounds can also improve the type of audio you are listening to in 6.1 surround sound

Sony STR de845, 5.1 Surround does not work. 3.2 is indicated o

3.2 IS the "5.1" mode for this receiver. 3.2 is indicating that you have 3 front channels and 2 rear channels. The ".1" is applied to all the speakers (LFE). If you read the manual on page 37, you'll see that "3.2" is displayed with either "Dolby Digital 3.2" or "DTS 3.2". The little icons of the speakers in the display window will show you which channels are active. The bottom line is as long as you see the blue light, it's decoding multi-channel discreet surround sound (at least 5.1).

No sound from back speakers

Remember the rear speakers are called surround... Did you select surround on the unit? if it says stereo then you will only get fronts, select surround to get the rest.

Rear speakers not working on STR-K740P

The only way your surround sound will work is if you have either the coaxial or fiber optic digital hookups attached to a PS3/Blueray/DVD/Cable box/Satellite box that have digital sound outputs. If you are just using the 1970's version of the red/white audio cables that is stero only.
