Question about Apple iPod nano

1 Answer

JVC car stereo - 5year old 4GB Ipod Nano - connecting via USB. Works fine when controlled from the head unit - but don't have the facility to select playlists - can't get it to play using the Ipod control feature, whcih would allow me to select features on the Ipod, ie playlists. Have upgraded the Ipod software, but I suspect it's just a case of the Ipod just being too old!!

It sounds like a compatibility issue with the head unit and the ipod. Have you tried using this head unit with any other ipods?

Cannot get my ipod/iphone to play the video clips on my jvc kd-avx77 it plays the sound just not getting any video clips dvd player is working fine music plays fine on the ipod/iphone just cannot play...

Hello there, the JVC unit can play 2 video file formats these are JPEG/MPEG. To watch video you need to have USB audio and video cable for ipod/iphone, KS-U30 to the usb cable from the rear of the unit. When this connection has been made you touch [SRC] then select iPod. When you connect your ipod/iphone to the USB terminal if it is not selected automatically you can select it from the SRC menu. You can check this out on page 49 of the user guide.
Also the unit only supports certain file formats which are mpeg and jpeg and also of a certain resolution. This can also be found on page 59 of the user guide.
Hope this support has been helpful?

My problem is when I connect my iPod to my head

That usb port is not meant for an ipod it was intended for a usb flash drive with mp3s on it. if you want to use your ipod you will need to get a interface mod, i believe the model number is jvc KS-PD100.. it should have it listed in your manual or you can call up jvc to confirm.

Ipod touch connector

Hello serafineb,

The Alpine Full Speed cable for the iPod supports the following versions:

Fourth generation iPod
Fifth generation iPod
iPod photo
iPod mini
iPod nano

According to their website it does not appear that Alpine currently has a cable for the iPod touch. They do, however, make a "generic" cable for most MP3 players that connects directly to the earphone jack. Although this would not allow you to control the iPod from your stereo's head unit, you should be able to connect the iPod touch via this cable to play music through your car stereo.

More information about the "generic" cable can be found here.

Best Regards,
Ken

The Touch will not work with the KDPDR30. I spoke with JVC and their models that will operate the Touch are KDPDR40, KDAPD49, KDPDR45, KDPDR41 and KDG47 the last two have a cable required.

IPod will not work.

restoring factory settings won't revert the player back to previous ipod software. Check with the alpine website product support and see which ipod software versions are compatible with the car deck you installed. I would think the latest version would be supported. then go to the apple website and download the most recent version of itunes that alpine says is compatible. connect your pod and open itunes. upgrade the pod to that itunes version and try it again with the car deck.
