Want to add memory card to sony pcv-v1/g

I have a sony pcv-v1/g for which I have just bought a 1gb RAM card. How do I get the back off? There are 2 tabs that you push up but it doesn't release. There are 4 screws in the underside of the base. Should I undo these?

Easy! Tip the screen forward and you'll see a Phillips screw towards the top of each end of the lump that sits at the base of the back of the screen. Undo both of these THEN the 2 tabs you refer to can be pushed in the direction of the arrows and the whole top of 'the lump' then comes off. The memory is under the silver colored cover held down by 2 pieces of sticky tape(!). Remove tape. Remove cover. 2 slots are exposed. One has 512 in it. Put 512 in the other one! Easy!

You don't take the back off, you actually take the left side off (if you look at it from the front)

it looks like a slot that is about 6 inches long and is right next to your processor

they usually are colored white, yellow, green, blue, or black (mostly white and blue)

they might be hidden behind your hard drive cords if your computer is small...

How do I open my sony pcv-v1

1. Ground Yourself
2. Unplug everything and press the power button for 10 sec to
discharge any residual power.
3. Place PC face down on bench with base over edge.
4. Swing PC unit forward and unscrew the case retaining screw on both
sides of the PC unit, swing unit other way and remove other two
screws.
5. Case can be loosened, pull large cover up and remove both sides.
Parts are then exposed.
6. A shiny metal box covers the memory on the left side of the PC unit. 7. Remove tape that retains it,slide and lift off from the edge facing you.
8. Memory slots are then exposed....insert and reassemble PC.

Good Luck!

How do i upgrade the ram on sony vaio pcv-v1/g, please

Very easily! With the unit on it's stand, tip the screen forward as far as it goes (About 15deg past vertical). This uncovers 2 Philips cross-head screws, one on each end of the black box that hangs off the back of the screen and contains the memory, processor, fan etc. Now the top of the black box can be lifted off. Inside is an aluminum box with the lid taped (!) on. Remove lid, and inside are 2 memory slots. One will have a 500mb mem card in it. The other is empty. Fit you new 500mb in the empty slot for 1gb total (the max). Don't forget to use some form of anti static protection and of course unplug it from mains electricity before you start!

Can the graphics card on Sony pcv v1/g be upgraded

Are there any open sockets on the board? These would accomodate more video ram. If not, I'm afraid you may have to buy a new card. Are you replacing a card from the PCIe bus? If so, simply remove it and put in your new one. If you are working from onboard Video, you need to make sure of what kind of Video Bus you have, AGP ( older ) or PCIe.
Look in your manual for this information. All should be plug n play from here.

it can be tough. ffirst where rubber gloves. Next make sure you are using the right memory. Then open the side o the machine. there are two light brown clips on either end. They will pull back on either end slowly and lightly. Then place you new memory chip in and press slowly untill both end clip back into place.
