MFC-7840w keeps saying "toner life end"

I recently ran out of toner in my cartridge and used a co-workers to print. After I used up the co-workers toner, I put a new one into the machine, but machine keeps saying "Toner life end." I can't get it to print! I've tried putting the cartridge into my co-workers, and it works in her machine. I can't get my machine to work again! What gives?

    I have a brother mfc 7840w

I first used the electrical tape trick and that worked for a while. Then got the toner low message again. I then tried the *00 trick, which works as follows:

    1. lift lid and open front cover
    2. press clear/back. "Replace Drum?" will appear on the screen.
    3. Press "*00" it will then read accepted and the toner low error (Toner Life End) should go away.
    4. close it all up and your done.

After I figured this out, it was quite easy to resolve. Remove the toner cartridge from the drum cartridge. Remove the black plastic cover on the left side of the toner cartridge (3 Phillips screws). There is a "flag", which is a small plastic tab on the outer side set to the right at about 2 o'clock. Turn the gears until you fully reset the tab going counterclockwise to the 10 o'clock position (fully to the left). Reinstall the small black cover and the three phillips screws. And the idea to install black electrical tape over the small clear plastic windows on both sides is also a good idea to prevent the early and false message that the cartridge is empty. Make sure you do not allow that tape to get into the gears.

No, If you use a refill in your recent toner cartridge you need to reset the toner, if you use a new toner cartridge, no need to reset.

Drum Life Ends soon - Brother

The problem with this is the design. Each toner cartridge has a microchip on it, that counts the pages you print. The company has determined that you get x amounts of prints. Then you have to replace it, empty or not. This printers do not work the same way as an expensive professional business copier. In an pro style there is a spent toner cartridge that collects all of the wasted toner that is on the drum. On a small business/home style this spent toner goes back into the cartridge. There is no level indicator, even on the inkjet printer. They too, have a chip that says you have x amount of prints/cleaning cycles they can go through. Look up inkjet refill kits or inkjet cartridge programmer.

Printer gives warning that toner life is gone. I replace the toner twice . Each time it prints one page and then gives error message. Page that did print out has dark horizonal lines.

Check the toner cartridge, side gears, you can see a reset lever (that lever is very important) show in the next picture.(cartridge new)

I replaced the drum and toner recently, yet half of my pages are faded when they print. It seems to be on the left side of the pages that are faded. Any suggestions

The toner section may not be seated properly in the drum unit. Try removing the toner section and putting it back in the drum section being very careful to keep the cartridge in alignment with the drum.

It says toner life end and it prints just fine

The toner life end message means the toner is getting low. It will continue to print without any problem. Eventually you will see the print starting to get light in spots. If it is a new cartridge, the toner level sensors are probably dirty.

Want copier to use up more toner in machine

If you know where the "Toner Eye" is in the copier, cover it with black tape. Usually though, the copier counts the number of pages printed and then at a predetermined number thinks toner is low and stops printing. If the toner cartridge is chipped (has a electronic chip) it keeps the count in there. These type of cartridges are refillable, but still have the "Empty" count. The counter must be reset. These resetters are hard or impossible to get.
