Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
The browser is a weak link in the security structure of most systems. Even with virus scanners and internet security firewalls they are still the weak link because of the design considerations that allow them to do so much. While it may not solve the issue running a virus, spyware , adware scans would not be a bad idea in this case.
Online scanners such as those identified below can provide valuable second opinions on occasion.
Sites like Trend Micro, Panda, Symantec and others have online scanners that remove viruses. You might want to start with Internet Explorer and www.f-secure.com and search for online scanner -- I believe the first link returned is the online scanner. They have a beta version for Vista and either the beta or the version on the page works for WIndows XP. You can click a start scanning at the bottom of the page for which ever version you use Beta or not.
allow the activeX
Install the Active X
Click Custom Scan
click Scan All Files
click scan inside archives
When it is done which will take a while -- you will be given the option to remove any malware it finds.
The other companies above have similar options on their web sites.
There are several free scanners that look got adware and the like.
www.lavasoft.com has both a free and commercial product -- the free product requires you to scan your own machine perioducally.
