Question about Dell Latitude D620 Notebook

1 Answer

When typing it will suddenly jump lines or even worse highlight a section and delete it. It happens in all programs.

Been going on consistently for about 6 months. Doesn't matter what forum: web, Office, etc. In the middle of typing the cursor will suddenly move to another line and continue typing there. In Word it tends to jump and highlight a section, then delete it if I accidentally backspace. Dell had no answer - already reformatted HD once.

Control panel, mouse, stick, disable when typing. You can even change the speed as to how long the delay is to when you want to actually use the stick.

The keyboard speed maybe set too low for your typing skills, try increasing the keyboard speed.
Open the Control Panel - Keyboard - Speed tab and move the speed slider to the max speed.

I have an ASUS P1001 Netbook, OS XP. When I am typing text, the cursor will sometimes jumps to a previous line, where my typing continues in the middle of a paragraph, or worse, when I am typing text,...

Think you might have (and it's very easy to do when you're typing) touched the touchpad as you're typing- which was probably why the cursor got repositioned. Without knowing the features on your ASUS, I'd look for Windows (assuming it's the OS) Control Panel and Mouse Controls - there usually is something that can be adjusted as to what qualifies as a tap (say, a really light tap versus a hard tap) and fiddle with it. You should be able to get it to work to your liking.

try updating the mousepad drivers, maybe they are not good. there may be new ones on the dell site that would work better with your machine. it sounds just like the issue you get with some sony machines where the drivers are no good as standard.

KEYBOARD PROBLEMS

I think the keyboard is making short circuit. You can try to send it back to the manufacturer.

What you can try before sending it to the manufacturer, is updating the drivers.

Does your laptop have a touch pointer within the keypad? This can cause the problem you're experiencing. Did you try turning the track stick off in the touchpad settings?

Sound like it, some touch pad drivers have a setting to turn it off while your typing, look through its settings and see what you can find.
