Question about Epson R245 InkJet Photo Printer

Open Question

Print head cleaning

Sirs
How do I clean the print head of my Epson Stylus Photo R245? I have tried the cleaning cycle but I still have a bit of a problem and the cycle drinks ink. I have found on the net some so called cleaner cartridges but these are not by Epson. Do they work?

Many thanks in anticipation
Alan Marco

SOURCE: How to remove print head of epson stylus photo r1800

Had the same problem - but the print head is actually easy to remove.

1) Remove ink cartridges
2) Remove 3 Phillips head screws at the bottom of the cartridge housing. (looking down from the printer front - top left, bottom left, top right).
3) There are 2 small plastic tabs on a plastic bracket that secure the flex cable on the right hand side of the cartridge housing. Gently release the tabs with a small flat head screw driver.
4) Lift the print head straight up (don't pull on the flex).

There may be a release for the flex to separate from the print head. But I did not see one. Instead I poured 1/4" of Windex in the bottom of a small plastic container and soaked my print head for about 15 minutes (occasionally agitating).

Then put back in reverse order - be sure to seat the flex in the guide (top-back-right) of the cartridge housing before screwing down. Then run a cleaning or two to flush the cleaning fluid out of the print head. (I have a waste ink tank installed so I am not worried about dumping excessive ink into the waste sponges).

The differences was remarkable - though there was still slight banding - maybe should have soaked longer (1 hr perhaps?) - I may repeat if it remains an issue.

Additionally there were large solid deposits on the left side of the print head which were responsible for scraping heavier weight photo paper. These dissolved in the Windex too.

SOURCE: All lights flashing on the Epson Stylus photo 870

Unfortunately, the Russian software does not work on a Mac, and it crashes at launch when installed in WZ98 under Virtual PC. However, I found this on another site, and it worked immediately:

The sequence to reset the waste ink counter is as follows:

WASTE INK ROM RESET ONLY 870, 1270

1. Turn the printer off using the power button on the panel of the printer.
2. Disconnect the interface cable at the back of the printer.
3. Hold down the "LOAD/EJECT" and "CLEANING" buttons simultaneously.
4. Turn the printer on. Release all buttons as soon as paper out light flashes.
5. Quickly press (within 3 seconds while PAPER OUT light is flashing) the "CLEANING" button for 10 seconds.
6. Release the button and the printer will initialize.
7. Once initialization is complete, turn the printer off.
8. Reconnect the interface cable.
9. Turn the printer on

Works great, no muss...no fuss!

SOURCE: reset ink-pad counter on epson stylus photo 1400

Hi,

The simplest way to do this is to grab a copy of the A10_IPR utility that Epson distribute to their customers...

The utility is available to North American customers if you register no this site page http://www.epson.com/ipr/

The utility is also know to be available in the wild if you search for "waste ink ipr".

Just remember to scan any download using a virus and malware scanner before you attempt to use it as some utilities contain trojans or similar nasties.

Hope that helps.

Replaced the ink cartridge now it will not print

*** I'll be more than happy to help you on that.
there is a great possibility that the nozzles of your printer are clogged by dried inks.maybe cause by the previous inks that you just replaced. we can check that by printing a nozzle check pattern.

1. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. 2. Turn off the Epson Stylus NX110 Series. 3. Hold down the nx110_tx110_ug.1.98.1.jpg Stop button as you press the nx110_tx110_ug.1.98.2.jpg On button to turn the Epson Stylus NX110 Series back on. When the nx110_tx110_ug.1.98.3.jpg On light begins to flash, release the nx110_tx110_ug.1.98.4.jpg Stop button. nx110_tx110_ug.1.98.5.jpg 4. Check the nozzle check pattern that prints to see if there are gaps in the lines. nx110_tx110_ug.1.98.6.jpg 5. If there are no gaps, the print head is clean and you can continue printing. If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, clean the print head. Using the Control Panel 1. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. 2. Make sure the Epson Stylus NX110 Series is on and the ink light is off. 3. Hold down the nx110_tx110_ug.1.99.1.jpg Stop button for three seconds to start the cleaning cycle, which lasts around one minute. The nx110_tx110_ug.1.99.2.jpg On light flashes throughout the cleaning cycle and stays on green when the cycle is finished. Caution:
Never turn off the Epson Stylus NX110 Series during a cleaning cycle or you may damage it. 4. Run a nozzle check to confirm that the print head is clean. You may need to clean the print head up to 4 times. You can also turn off the Epson Stylus NX110 Series and wait at least 6 hours. Then try printing again.

test the printer first, so that we can isolate the issue. print a nozzle check to eliminate the possibility that the nozzles are clogged by dried inks. if nozzle check prints blank page or it printedr but w/ gaps or breaks, do head cleaning

Check the Print Head Nozzles: 1. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. 2. Turn off the Epson Stylus CX4400 Series. 3. Hold down the cx4400_ug.1.79.1.jpg Stop button as you press the cx4400_ug.1.79.2.jpg On button to turn the Epson Stylus CX4400 Series back on. Hold down both buttons until the cx4400_ug.1.79.3.jpg On light begins to flash, then release the buttons. cx4400_ug.1.79.4.jpg 4. Check the nozzle check pattern that prints to see if there are gaps in the lines. cx4400_ug.1.79.5.jpg 5. If there are no gaps, the print head is clean and you can continue printing. If there are gaps or the pattern is faint, clean the print head. Clean the Print Head Nozzles: 1. Load a few sheets of plain paper in the sheet feeder. 2. Hold down the cx4400_ug.1.80.1.jpg Stop button for at least 4 seconds to start the cleaning cycle, which lasts around 1 minute. cx4400_ug.1.80.2.jpg The cx4400_ug.1.80.3.jpg On light flashes throughout the cleaning cycle and stays on green when the cycle is finished. I finally fixed it by printing in glossy mode on a thick and rough paper used for manual drawings. A bit of dust came off from under the print head and now it prints clean again.

My Epson Stylus C88+ printer won't print

Sounds like there's a problem with the print head. I'd recommend doing a nozzle check, if any colours are missing from the print out then try some head cleans. You can find the nozzle check and head clean options in the maintenance/utility tab of your printer driver.

I need to clear the inkjet heads on my Epson Stylus R220.

Follow the steps below to clean the print head using the Head Cleaning utility.
Make sure that the printer is turned on and the ink out light is off. Access the printer software. Click the Maintenance tab, then click the Head Cleaning button. Follow the on-screen instructions. The power light flashes while the printer performs the cleaning cycle. Never turn off the printer while the power light is flashing. Doing so may damage the printer. When the power light stops flashing, load a few sheets of paper and click Print Nozzle Check Pattern in the Head Cleaning dialog box to confirm that the print head is clean.

Cant get printer to work

Have you tried a cleaning cycle? If not, try one. Now run a nozzle check using the status monitor (right click the little printer icon in the bottom right corner of the screen and select nozzle check). Is there any sign of ink on the paper. Try up to three cleaning cycles. If ink is now flowing, but not yet perfectly, don't carry out any more
cleaning cycles. Just leave the printer for 24 hours (to allow any air in the print head to disperse). Then repeat the cleaning cycle/wait process. It may take a while to restore a perfect nozzle check print. If these actions produce no positive results, report back.

There is also the "generic" approach. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head starts to move, pull the power lead out of the printer, or turn it off at the mains. The print head should now be free to move (gently!) by hand to the cartridge change position. The snag here is there is no inherent means of running an ink charge cycle - do a couple of head clean cycles instead.

Clean the print head

Hi, the easiest and best way to clean any print head is to put the print head/cartridge in a glass bowl [to avoid ink stains] and pour a small amount of boiling water from your kettle into the bowl, just enough to cover the lower part of the cartridge/print head. then gently agitate the unit up and down for a couple of minutes. Allow it to dry on a paper towel, as soon as its dry replace it and your printer should be fine. Please note that to prolong the life of a cartridge you should print ssomething at least once a week. Goodluck. Regards mistyman

Epson 1280 red lines on photo

One of the best possible solution that we can suggest is to run a cleaning cycle for three times. Just to make sure that cleaning is effective please try the step below:

1. Using your computer go to printer utility.
2. Click on Maintenance then select Head Cleaning. Head cleaning usually took 1 minute.
3. Once the Head Cleaning is done Print a nozzle pattern to check whether the head cleaning is effective or not.

Repeat those steps for 3 times. If the nozzle pattern after 3 cleaning cycles still bad. Reseat ink cartridge if possible replace the ink cartridges.

After all those steps and issue still present printer needs to be in service.
