Hi howardpierso! I will be glad to assist you. here is what we are goin to do:Perform the following steps to resolve the issue.
Step one: Check the paper Match the paper type to the project. If the paper is too fibrous, the ink applied by the printer might not fully cover the print surface.
Step two: Check the print settings In the software application you are trying to print from, click File and then click Print . The Print dialog box opens.
Select your product and then click Preferences . The printer Properties dialog box opens.
Click the Features tab.
Review the following options on the Features tab, and then make any necessary changes.
Print quality : If you are not satisfied with the quality of your printouts, increase the print quality. To print more quickly, decrease the print quality.
Paper type : If one of the options matches your paper type exactly, choose the matching option rather than Automatic .
Resizing Options : Make sure the selected option matches your paper size.
Step three: Print a diagnostic page Step four: Note which cartridges printed which areas of the diagnostic page The product can print with different combinations of ink cartridges. Different cartridge combinations print different diagnostic page patterns. Identify which cartridge printed which part of the diagnostic page to determine the faulty cartridge.
Step five: Check the ink-level indicators on the diagnostic page NOTE: The ink-level indicator might be inaccurate or unavailable for cartridges, including refilled or remanufactured cartridges, used in other products.
The ink-level indicator bars display in the middle of the diagnostic page.
The printed image of the ink-level indicator bar shrinks as you use ink. If the print quality becomes unacceptable and either ink cartridge is low on ink, replace the ink cartridge.
Step six: Check for defects on the diagnostic page If the product and print cartridges are working correctly, few or no lines are missing from the grid-like patterns on the diagnostic page. None of the colors should be missing. Also, there should be no streaks of ink on the page.
Missing lines or streaked bars Color bars will often streake if ink levels are low. If a pattern shows more than a few missing lines, or there are streaks on the bar, the corresponding print cartridge is not functioning correctly.
Colors do not match the color on the cartridge label If any of the colors of the bars are very different from the color dots on the cartridge label, the cartridge is not functioning properly.
If the diagnostic page shows colors that are very different from the colors on the cartridge label
Missing colors If any of the color patterns or bars are missing completely, the cartridge is not functioning correctly.
NOTE: If printing in reserve mode, without all the cartridges installed, the patterns associated with the missing cartridge will also be missing.
1 - Good test page
2 - Yellow pattern and bar missing
Ink smears If the diagnostic page shows smeared ink, the cartridges are not functioning correctly.
Step seven: Continued troubleshooting if the diagnostic page shows no defects . If no defects appear on the diagnostic page, the cartridges and product are probably working correctly.

When ever i print there are always lines of ink missing going through words

You have some clogged ink-jets -- the ink is being stucked from the ink-cartridge, but is not being sprayed onto the paper.

Use the Canon "support" software that you installed to run a "print-head-cleaning-cycle", to try to unclog the print-head.

Canon Bubble Jet i560 Ink Jet Printer not printing black

Canon i-550 printing in black--the lines are only printing half of the line. In other words, cutting the words in half horozontally

Try cleaning the cartridge by taking a damp paper towel and wiping the ink jets. If you still get the problem, try running the cleaning cycle. If nothing works, then try a new cartridge.

#5 black ink cartridge skips through the middle occasionally

Replacing the print head
The print head may need replacing if, after all print head and ink tank troubleshooting has been performed:

  • The nozzle test appears broken or to have horizontal white streaks.
  • One or more of the colors is missing from the Nozzle Test.
  • The colors are incorrect on the Nozzle Test.
  • A print head error is indicated on the unit.
  • The printer powers off when the print head is installed.
I hope it helps!!!

Canon i550 has has rainbow line in output

Even though you say you have ink, the "rainbow" line is usually an ink problem. Try doing a head clean process.

Right-mouse click on the printer and bring up "Properties". There should be a 'Maintenance" tab and one or more cleaning options and/or nozzle checks.

Printing without color?

Im sorry to inform but yes, Epson ink jet printers require all of the ink cartridges to have ink in them in order to print any color, black and white, or grayscale images. Epson printers contain a permanent print head that needs to be charged with all colors to work. Even when users are printing black text only, a small amount of color ink is used to keep the print head charged for color printing and prevent air bubbles from entering the color print nozzles which can damage the print head. Therefore, once one of the cartridges are expended, the printer signals you to replace the cartridge in order for printing to continue.

Horizontal colored lines through grayscale printed photos

Hi George,

It sound's like an ink-feed issue:

1) Dirty heads, even after cleaning
2) No-ink or poor quality ink
3) Damaged head: some are part of the cartridge, some are not
4) Air bubbles in ink

The test page is typically not as hi-res nor as saturated as a
photo print. The hi-res photo puts the greatest demand on the print head.

The color lines you see are actually lines of missing color,
where the head has failed to deposit ink, so one or two primary
colors are missing from the complete picture.

For example missing yellow will make a blue line.
Missing magenta will make a green line
Missing cyan will make a red line.... etc..

Clean the heads again and again, print again and again,
hoping to flush the system.

BUT, keep in mind that cleaning wastes huge amounts of
ink and tiny little cartridges of ink cost more than many new printers.

Canon i550 doesn't print correctly

---Is the incrustation of the heads or the ducts such that I need to throw the i550 away

This one...

I had 3 Canon i550 and i560 printer, unfortunately if you use non original inks and leave the print head with no ink cartridge for some hours the ink can dry inside the print head = dead.

I have try several methods of cleaning print head and waste a lot of time on this, finally here some suggestions:
- use pure alchool (at least 90 °) to clean the print head, you can also use clear water but after you had to rinse with alchool because alchool removes the left water that can cause shortcircuit when you power on the print head.

- the electrical connections of the print head (brown ribbon with integrated circuit path) are very fragile if you decide to unmount the print head removing the 2 phlilips screws you must be VERY careful

- for black ,one safe trick is to remove the round (8 mm) glued upper metal sheet filter on the upper part of the print head where the ink cartridge sets. Once removed you can use a syringe needle filled with alchool to remove the dry ink and spray alchool into the small duct hole to remove all the bad dry ink. Be patien it will take some time. You can also leave the syringe filled wyth alchool and without the syringe piston for a night inside the duct hole.

Take a look to the service manual also for other inspirations:

Wont print

Hi, yes I have had problems with these HP printers B4 and it was in fact the INK... strange as it may seem, Ya gota have them "Full" as it were. I have "Fooled" it sometimes by removing the cartridge(s) and powering on & of re-inserting them. But eventually always ended up paying thru the nose for the cartridges. I saved a bit by using refilled ones, but I now use printers that have cheap single color ones, eg: Canon i550
