I'm a little confused by your terminology. You are saying you have a pilot lite and electric heat strips? Are you possibly meaning burners? Is the heater running for 2 hours straight without shutting off? how cold is it there? Lastly what temperature do you have the thermostat set at and how close does it get to the temp. before it shuts off?

Thanks for the clarification, First we ned to start eliminating the culprits. As this is an intermittent problem, meaning it works and sometimes it dont work. So lets start with the thermostat. remove the cover to expose the wiring. You should see red=power, white=heat, green=fan and yellow or blue=cool. make a jumper wire or remove one of the wires whichever is easiest, and connect the red to the white. Dont be afraid of being shocked you probably will not feel anything, just be careful not to touch anything else with the wires, because it may short out the transformer. If you will be more comfortable cut the power. Anyway this will by-pass the thermostat and the furnace will run continuously. If the heat doesn't cut out, that's it, replace 't'stat. If you have the problem still then, we need to look at the limit control or thermal disc if you have one. Lets try this first and let me know.

Per landlord, need to light pilot

You would smell the gas, so you're probably ok. Lighting the pilot is not too tough, first you have to get the cover off the furnace. Inside you will see pipes and parts. Hopefully on the cover, inside or out, or somewhere inside the furnace will be instructions.
If not, find a knob that has 'pilot', 'off' and 'run' or something like that. It will probably be in 'run'.
Usually, you have to push the knob down and turn it to get it to the 'pilot' spot. When you do, have something to lite the pilot, which will be inside the furnace more, near the burner. The burner looks like a gas stove or oven burner. The pilot place will be at the end of a small tube.
With the button held down, wave something burning around the burner area. especially at what may be the pilot. The pilot doesn't put out much gas, so don't worry about things blowing up.
Once the pilot has lit, hold the button down for a while, at least a minute. Then you should be able to release the button and the pilot should stay on. If it doesn't, you need a serviceman to come. Let the landlord know the pilot would not stay lit.
If the pilot stays lit, move the knob to 'run' or such, and the furnace should lite, if the thermostat is set higher than room temp. If it has been off, and the room is cool, it should lite.
If the furnace doesn't come on, let the landlord know.
Most landlords have service people for this, it was my job for a long time. Lighting pilots was a common chore for me. If you can, have the landlord send one out to show you how to do it.
As you see, it's not all tough, but it's not all easy, either.

Our Lennox Conservator G8E furnace goes through several ON-OFF cycles (we counted up to 10 clicks) before it stabilizes and stays ON. Once it's ON it works fine. - Any suggestions?

If its a gas furnace it could be the heat sensor on the pilot flame unit. When the sensor is failing it stops telling the control that the pilot is lit properly and the furnace goes thru another start up sequence.
You can try to scrape any flash and dirt off of the heat sensor rod to clean it or remove it and clean or replace the sensor or the pilot assembly. There are plenty or furnace parts on Amazon. The next most likely thing is the relay board is ready to fail that part is ~$80 but you need to get the part number right and be experienced with wiring.
WARNING-DANGER B4 you do anything to your furnace Turn Off The POWER first! If there is no plug or switch near by, shut of the circuit breaker! If you don't know what any of this means then you are likely not a good choice to mess with this device
Be Safe :)

How do you lite the pilot lite on a Rheem Gas Furnace Model #rgma-125a

If I recall correctly, model number Rheem furnace you listed has electronic ignition to light the pilot, when the home's thermostat calls for heat. Is this what you're having a problem with?

I have a lennox furnace/ new thermostat/ wont turn on/ have to turn the switch to on and off a few times or completely leave it off for a small time and then it will come on and sometimes run for hours....

i dont belive that furnace has a spill switch so the chimney would not be your problem with this.the furnace has a lock out after so many trys to light. by turning it off your reseting the board. i would look at my pilot light as the main problem. it may need to be cleaned. then look at flame rod position. remove gas tube from bottom of pilot assemble and a small thimble looking thing should come out it has a very small hole in it to clean. reassemble and check connection with soapy water with the pilot lit for leakage

Pilots stays lite but furnace burners will not turn on. when i turn the knob to on nothing happens

You more than likely need to change or adjust your thermocouple in the furnace. It is the part the pilot light heats up to let the furnace know it is safe to turn on the gas flow. These go bad over time and are fairly inexpensive and easy to change.

Pilot light will stay lit Lennox G8D2-82

You may need to replace the Thermocoupler. It screws into the gas regulator and the sensor end is set in the flame of the pilot light. You can get one at any appliance parts store. The Thermocoupler simply feels the heat of the pilot light and sends a very small amount of voltage to the gas switch that opens when your thermostat calls for heat. If the pilot light isnt lit, no voltage from the sensor and no gas can be released by the regulator.
Anyone can replace one. Just find the tip that sits in the the pilot flame when you try to ignite the pilot light. Follow it down to the regulator and unscrew it. There is no gas involved. It is Ultra Low Voltage. No danger.
Be sure to turn off the power to the unit before you begin removal. Take it to the parts store along with your furnace brand and model number. If you see any identifiers on the regulator, note them and take them with. When you replace it be sure to have the sensor end up in the flame of the pilot.
