Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook

1 Answer

I am trying to boot from an XP disk to do erase vista and install XP. I have the boot sequence to boot from the cd first but it bypasses the cd and continues to load vista. I even tried F12 at boot up and selected the cd drive. It still bypasses the cd. I can see that the cd reads the disk but for whatever reason it never boots from the cd. What gives? PS On most other computers I am prompted, "Press any key to boot from cd" but I never get this prompt from the ACER5100

As you have written that your CD ROM is working fine, then there is only one possible reasons for this, that Your BIOS is malfunctioning and you have to download and install the latest version for your system.

Nec versa want to downgrade from vista to xp but booting from xp cd it does not detect harddrive, why? what can I do about it?

Hi,

Sometimes booting from XP disk wont detect your hard disk, the problem is because the IDE driver which is needed for the identification of the hard disks are not at all avaible with the XP CD. So u have to download the corresponding IDE driver for your hard disk and then u can install that from the floppy drive during the installation . I think on installation XP set up will ask for a driver installation (third party installation). U can do this by using a floppy disk . If the floppy drive is not all available in your laptop then u can use softwares which can mix the IDE driver along with the XP set up U have. A lot of softwares are available for download for this purpose

Thank u and please rate my solution

Cant get on.keeps saying operating system not found.ihave windows xp.can you tell me what to do and why its doing that? Thanks

Do you have the original start up disc? If so use it. If not there is generally a button to use at start up that will get you to a screen where you can restore your computer to a previous date. The button is usually F10 or F11 or one of the f keys. Also make sure that you don't have a disk in one of the drives. Take everything out and try starting it up. Good luck.
