D.C. 17 makes a loud whining noise when beater brushes are engaged. Normal sound until then. Replaced belt. Still so loud it hurts my ears!

Could be the brush roll, remove brush roll and see if noise is still there when brush roll motor is running.

I ran the vacuum over throw rugs and the brush roller just stopped. I can't get the roller to work now... it won't even spin and the "brush" feature is in the ON position.

You've got a broken belt. Most Hoover Vacuums have a spare belt attached to the vacuum itself. Replacement is fairly easy and usually won't require tools. To replace your belt:
  1. Unplug the vacuum
  2. Locate clips on bottom of vacuum-Hoover uses clips that can be opened by hand.
  3. Lift up the plate that encloses the rollers
  4. Remove broken belt
  5. Remove roller from it's compartment
  6. Install replacement belt (hooking it around the motor and roller, using the roller for leverage to stretch out the belt until you have the roller in it's compartment.
  7. Replace cover
  8. Put clips back in place.

HIGH PITCHED SOUNDS WHEN VACCUUM IS ON

Remove all filters and turn on the vacuum cleaner and check the hose for suction. If it has good suction turn it off and remove the belt.Turn it back on and if the noise is still there you have a motor bearing squealing. It's probably time to replace the vacuum cleaner if you have a motor problem.www.sewvac.com .Most of these box store models are designed for replacement if a major component fails.

High pitched whining sound when vacuuming. Stops when handle is in an upright position. Thank you.

the high pitched whining is most likely the belt and it stops when you put the handle up because the roller bar is not engaged when you put up the handle. If it is the belt making that noise it will most likely break soon and you will need to put a new one on. Hope this helped...good luck

How do I gain access to the motor of an Electrolux 2000 canister vacuum. The air intake on the motor must be partially blocked as there is a loss of suction and the motor makes that high pitched whine like...

Dismantling the vacuum probably won't help much, and reassembling can be a bear.
To check the intake, remove bag and look into bottom of bag well. It there's a filter there, remove it and check intake at bottom of bag well. Clear if there is.
The afterfilter on a canister is located beneath the air diffuser grid on the top of the machine where the tools can be attached. Remove this cover and there should be a white filter. Yours is probably black, or at least real dirty, if it's never been changed. This also blocks the airflow, reducing suction, and potentially damaging the motor. Extremely dirty filters are an indicator of how much dust is getting into and through the motor. This is usually caused by using generic bags rather than the genuine Electrolux, now Aerus, bags.
It is also an indicator of another internal problem on some other Aerus and pre-Aerus Electrolux vacuums.

Vacuum sounds like an airplane after 1 year of use.

the motor bearings are starting to fail most likely. You can diagnose the source of the noise by removing the brushroll and belt, could possibly be the brushroll bearings but if you still get the noise when the belt is off its the motor.

Bissell 6596 bagless turbo - minimal suction & burning smell

You can reach the motor, however your motor is no longer in operable condition. This is what you hear when you turn it on. You must replace the motor for this to go away. Below is the motor part number if you would like to replace it. It will cost you about half the amount of the unit to replace.

Motor # 2032211

Whiny motor, less suction

Its not unheard of that the lifetime filtration filter may need replacing and dust can work itself into the main motor chamber even though Dyson claim their models have sealed motors. Whiny motors however can happen for a number of reasons such as:

  • Over-use
  • Motor bearings
  • Strain on the motor from another source i.e. the drive belt may need replacing or the caps on the brush roller at each end need to be checked.
Have a look at the drive belt / sole plate to see if there is any dirt clogging the system. Also check the inspection pipes on the Dyson and check that nothing is obstructing the air waves. Sometimes even a new filter (bottom of the bin) cures the problem and this can easily be checked by taking out the filter for a couple of seconds and using the Dyson to check if suction is indeed stronger.

High pitch

Sounds like you have a clog. Make sure the filters are clean, replace if it has been more then a year, check the inlet down by the brush roll, your clog maybe there.
