Big yellow blob on Sony KDF-E50A10

Called Sony and they said that they only offered to fix this until 2008. Nice that they didn't inform anyone about the problem. So now I am waiting until they get back to me. They did admit though that they knew they had a problem with the optical block on this model.

SOURCE: please help-question about sony optical blocks

Talk to Sony about the blue blob issue, they may still replace the optical block for free.

If not, fix the blinking light TV.

Blink Codes
3X - Lamp cover not installed correctly, usually after lamp change, or cover detect switch is bad.
4X - Check fans (one or more failed to pass RPM test during power on diagnostics)
5X - Lamp ballast (power supply)
6X - Usually the thermal fuse - usually from inadequate air flow (fans dusty)

All other codes usually require a trained technician to diagnose and repair.

With all due respect, you're asking the wrong people. Only Sony can tell you if you're too late but my experience has been that they're normally pretty fair with considering out of warranty goodwill repairs.
Ask Sony and if they can't help then come back and ask about your problem on FixYa.

It is dlp tv that has one lamp as back light source. Yellowish tint is problem of Optical Block Unit (commonly known as light engine) that will be replaced to fix it.

Some of these models have this problem from production.
I would recommend to contact SONY and tell them the problem they may be able to fix your TV at no cost, since some of their Light engines have a recall but I'm not sure if your model number is one of those.

If you want to fix the TV yourself you need to replace the light engine and that requires advanced skills for this product

hope that was helpful
thank you

Sony KDF-E50A10 HDTV LCD TV now with the same problem as these guys. Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks for update,
Lamp replacement is not difficult in KDF-E50A10 and its written in user manual. You can download user manual copy by clicking Sony Support.

Your TV needs XL-2400 Lamp and it is available in Sony Accessories Store. (click and see)
I would recommend to buy Sony original lamp for this TV and avoid after market or compatible lamp.
Good luck.
