Question about Ovens

2 Answers

Thermador scd272ts was not working so I just finished replacing touch panel, display, main power/relay board, and the connecting harness. The functions are working now, but will stop working when I close everything up tight. It appears that the touch panel curcuit board is somehow touching the sheetmetal cover that it mounts to and causing it to short out. I have tried many times to adjust this and see if there is another way to reassemble to stop this from happening. Unfortunately the drawing that shows how the oven parts go together is not very detailed, so its of no help. I have spent all this time and money on parts and now with out this final solution, I still have no oven. Please help - Thanks

The board is causing a short in a place that you can not see…usually these boards has a small parts that allow the board to be secured to the frame and high (not to allow it to touch)…they usually connected or placed with the screws they create a platform see if you got them with the board or not…
Make sure that you connected the green ground before you close the unit and let me know
Please let me know how this worked for you and please do not forget to grade my assistance so I am able to continue to provide you with better service. I will be working with you to conclusion of the issues.

If you think that it is the touch panel that is causing the problem then place a thin sheet of plastic or mylar sheet behing the panel and secure it with heat resistant and non conductive gaffa tape to insulate the circuit board from the chassis.

The control panel on my Thermador scd302tp will not light up. The oven works fine. The appliance company wants to replace the entire control panel. Can it be fixed for cheaper?

Hello, welcome to Fixya. To answer your question "Is there a cheaper fix?" In a word...maybe. **Turn off the breaker before attempting any service suggested here please** The first thing to look into is to check the harness which comes from the main relay board to the display head, they can become unsecured from the display or the main relay board/control and that will affect the display in a negative way, i.e. faded or no display illuminated. You may or may not be surprised how much those things vibrate under normal use with the cooling/convection fan running etc. and over time the harness becomes unsecured. Check "J1" on display head as well as "J1" on relay board of the display power harness and insure they are secure in place, wiggle them a bit to see if the display illuminates when turning the power back on. If that doesn`t yield any positive result`s you`ll need a new display head kit part # 492067, it comes w/harness and main relay board ( see image below ) and it is typically about $250 or so, but I haven`t had to purchase one in 4-5 yrs. I`ve checked repairclinic.com and their site says it is discontinued, but if it turns out you need one I may have one in my garage. ( I used to have my own appliance business, hence I still have some "new old stock". we can communicate via email if need be ) Let me know what you find and how it goes with the harness check, I`ll watch for your reply on your post here. I`ll cross my fingers for you it`s just a loose harness. Hopefully this was helpful to move you forward and shed some insight on what to look for at least. Good luck macmarkus :)

All lights in the digital control panel have gone out

Hello Jerry, welcome to Fixya.

The first thing to look into is to check the harness which comes from the main relay board to the display head, they can become unsecured from the display or the main relay board/control and that will affect the display in a negative way, i.e. faded or no display illuminated.

I have a Thermador SC301 wall oven and the display has faded out. Thermador says I need to replace the whole control unit ($500 for the part!) Any cheaper fix?

I have just repaired two SC301 ovens myself, but it is alot of work. You can get the oven's LED lights reconditioned at a company called CGI industries. Look them up on the web and click on the link for thermador. Removing the led panel and oven relay board is an involved job, but easier if you do it the correct way. First, turn off the power to the oven. Then pull the oven out of the wall socket about 1 quarter of the way. Remove the top cover of the oven with a phillips screw driver. This reveals the oven relay board. Take a digital picture of the board to remember the wire positions, or alternatively write them down. You also need to remove the touch panel (two screws underneath) and gain access to the LED. Remove the LED panel and wires. ship both to CGI (boards only) and you will have them back in less than a week. Costs about $170 before shipping. Reinstall and turn power on. All is good.

Control panel disassembly

Shut the breaker off to the oven first. Frame around mircowave is a snapped on front. Removing allows access to two screws under control panal. Must actually pull entire unit out about 9 inches to access top of control area to remove access panel. Once front control panel is removed and top is opened, easy access to what you need to get to. Carefully write down color coding of wires before removing any of them. Remove old power supply board and display and reconnect. Reverse process. A bit of work but if you watch the disassembly process carefully, pretty easy.

Thermador Built-in Oven Model SMW272

usually this is because you have the connecter on the touch pad off by a pin or not seated well. sometimes all it takes is taking the front touch panel off, re seating the connectors, and putting it back together. these thermadores are very sensitive to it for some reason. if all else fails, take all of the small multi pin wire connectors off one by one and re seat them. it should take care of the problem if it wasnt there before you started. good luck!

Replaced the displace board and oven is now not working

I just had a repair company replace the display, control board and wiring harness on SCD272 double oven to correct a dim display (kit part # 492071). Instructions on kit say that all three pieces must be used together for proper operation.
