sounds like needle valve in the carb is not shutting the gas off this happins some times when carb engines sit for long periods of time. turning the gas in to a laquer like substance. solution take carb off and clean the needle valve and the needle seat make sure all orfisis and jets are clear of dabrie. good luck david baxley.

I think the float in the carb is sticking. Tap on the carb a few times and then try it. You may have to rebuild the carb.

The float/needle-valve/seat need to be looked at in the carburetor base. The float is not shutting off fuel flow when bowl is at design fuel level. Look for dirt/varnish or anything that interferes with float free movement or preventing the needle valve to close with the seat--usually, just cleaning these parts with spray carburetor cleaner and wiping with a clean cloth will restore operation. Try not to bend anything on the float assembly. Hope this helps!

SOURCE: Have an Echo backpack blower
pauly 46 here sounds like tank breather and carby problems ?
have you checked that the muffler and ex port are not blocked ?
have you checked that the tank breather is working, and that the fuel pump diaphram is ok - no holes or damaged / stiff , and also that the metering diaphram and needle valve are ok and are not sticking open, or the lever setting is too high or the diaphram is just too stiff and holding the needle open
either way check tank breather and carby diaphrams , and needle valve and lever and the muffler and ex port for blockage
i assume compression and spark and timming and induction system are all ok
if its still hard to start and everything checks out as good might have a air leak
only way to know is to pressure and vac test crankcases
might pay to let your local shop do this because you need some special tools
but cover the basics 1st
cheers pauly46 hope it helps
