Question about Kenmore 21 cu. ft. Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

Our Kenmore refrigerator model 106.9700516 has water under the crispers. We think that it is from our defrost line? Could this be right or is there some other problem?

Hello, this sounds like you have a blockage in the drain tube, remove panel back/bottom of may see ice build up...melt ice with hair dryer/heat will see a pan below evaporator...melt ice in pan...dry water up in pan with paper you should see a hole in pan that leads to drain tube...pour some hot water in pan..wait a couple minutes..mop up water and repeat this step 2-3 times....once you have done this find some flexible curtain wire or electrical wire..poke down the hole until you see the water it is clear..put back panel back and you are good to go. The reason you see water in the fridge is because the water has been leaking into the freezer and down the vent into the fridge instead of running into the drain hole...Please feel free to comment again if you need any further assistance. Mike

I have water collecting at the bottom of the frig under the crisper drawers. It appears to be coming from the freezer. Do I need to defrost and if so how?

It shouldnt need to be defrosted if it is a frost free refer. It sounds like your defrost drain line is clogged and backing up. Check the drain pan underneath refer.

Every couple of days lots of water runs out on the floor.

It sounds like the defrost drain is clogged up. On some models there is a removeable white pull out cup located in the center back wall at the top in the refrigerator section. It is connected to a tube on the back of the refrigertor. If that is blocked water will be in the bottom under the crisper drawers.

Water under the crisper bins in the refrigerator -

Replace the door seal on the freezer. When they go bad, outside air leaks into the freezer and when it kicks into automatic defrost, the ice crystals melt and run down the back of the refrigerator. The oldar models had a drain under the crispers that drained into a pan near the condensor coils. It was a heat source that evaporated the water. Some brainstorm decided they weren't necessary.

is it collecting under the crisper drawer? if so the drain line for the defrost system might be clogged. find where the drain tube empties by the compressor. blow into that tube. did a bunch of water come out? if yes, prob solved. hope this helps. let me know if it doesn't.
