Right well XP Pro really MUST be formatted with NTFS only... I suggest you get a third party partitioning program like Partition magic and completely remove the partition & redo it all again & this time Format NTFS. Or if ya have a WIN98 boot disk, and ya can use FDISK, Delete ALL partitions, and remake them again, using all the disk space, then format as NTFS, then proceed as below Then using your windows XP PRO setup Disk, start the install ...then when asked about where you want the install located, select C & REFORMAT it AGAIN with the windows setup using again NTFS file system... this should finish & then the Install should "see" your entire hard drive and format it accordingly and then when finished you can proceede to install XP.

SOURCE: Can't install OEM Windows XP on fresh hard disk

could be a memory or hard drive problem. Try reseating the RAM, then going through a complete reinstall again, and do a regular format to NTFS, not a quick format.

SOURCE: trying to install Print Shop version 10 onto an XP

First off are you running windows 95/98?

If you are beyond 98, there is a good chance that windows 2000, ME, XP, Vista will not run it because there is a .dll or other file missing. If you have a newer computer and you want to run older software, you have to run it in "compatability" mode. This process is doable but you will have to do the footwork in the "HELP" section of your current computer. The process is too lengthly to set forth here.

Thank you for your question and good luck with your project.

P.S. have you considered new software?

Hi, I just bought the Sabrina Spellbound CD-ROM which is compatible for Windows 95/98, but I have a Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. It won't launch, please help!!!

Have you tried running the game in compatibilty mode? If not follow these steps.

1. Navigate your way to "My Computer" > "Local Disk (usually C:) > "Program Files (x86)" > and then the folder the program is stored in.

2. Right-click on the program launch icon and left-click on properties.

3. Click on the "Compatibility" tab.

4. Check the box that says "Run this program in compatibility mode for:"

5. Click on the arrow pointing down and select a previous version of Windows which you know the game is compatible with.

6. Click on "OK", and try to run the game again.

Hope this helps. If not, let me know the outcome and I'll try to assist you further.

Hasbro MasterMind does not install on Windows XP or Windows 7 ! Do they have a newer version available ? I loved the game but it only played on Windows 98 ..... Anyone have any ideas ? Thanks...

Have you tried running the installer in compatibility mode? Right click on the installer (usually setup.exe or install.exe, and if you have it on a CD, you need to open the CD in My Computer as a folder by right clicking and choosing open), go to Properties -> Compatibility -> Check the 'Run this program in compatibility mode for:' check box, and select 'Windows 98/Windows' ME from the drop-down menu. Apply the changes or click 'OK', and try to run the .exe -file. If the game successfully installs, and you can't still launch it, do the same to the game's launch .exe -file.

I have the cd rom disc stratego and I am trying to install it on windows 7 and it will install but it will not let me play it.. is there somewhere where I can buy the cdrom for windows 7 or somehow that I...

This game won't work on Windows 7 in any of the compatability modes. The only way to get this game to work is to run it in windows xp. The good news is that you can get free software from Oracle called virtualbox. Using virtualbox if you have a xp installation disk, you can create a virtual windows xp that runs within your windows 7. Stratego plays fine from within a virtual windows xp, provided that you play from the cd-disk not the virtual hard drive. Install the game normally in the virtual windows xp environment. After installation, to play the game, you must be in virtual windows xp, then double click the CD/DVD drive icon that looks like a bomb. If you try playing from any of the shortcut Stratego (also looks like bombs) launchers or the stratego.exe file installed on your virtual hard drive, the game will not work.Just go to My Computer in the virtual windows xp, and double click the cd/dvd bomb icon, and the game starts up fine.

PC xp pro is restarting over and over. now the keyboard is dead.

Hi, my guess would be a corrupt windows file. Usually running a check disk can take care of this problem, otherwise it may be that you'll need to reinstall windows (hopefully not).

If you have the Windows XP cd that came with the computer then you should be able to boot to it while turning on the computer (either by changing the boot order in the BIOS or by doing a one time boot selection).

Once you have loaded up the CD it should give you the option to install windows or launch recovery console. You will want to launch the recovery console and when it gives you a DOS prompt (Looking similar to "C:/") you want to type "chkdsk /r". That will run check disk and test your core windows files for any corruption.

If you don't have the CD an option would be to use a different computer with working internet access and CD burner to download the Windows Recovery Console CD for your version of windows and make a copy of it to use in the computer.

Hopefully that works for you :)

Installing

The game was released back in 2002, that means it was designed for older versions of Windows OS (Windows 98/ME/XP). The updates for the game do not have any patches for the installation to be compatible to the new Windows Vista OS as they were released on November, 21st 2002 aslo that patches resolve functionality issues after the game is successfully installed.

Some game ".exe" file (executeable file) would let you make changes in the Compatibility option, whereas older games might not give that option at all.

You can still try to make the game compatible for installing it on the Windows Vista by following the steps below.

1. Insert the game disc in your CD-ROM drive, if the game setup or the autorun starts, exit it.

2. Open "Computer", Right Click the Cd Drive which has the game disk in it and select "Copy".

3. Go to your "Desktop" right click and then select "New" and click on "Folder" this should create a new folder on your desktop.

4. Open the New Folder and then Right Click and select "Paste".

6. After all the files are copied to the "New Folder" without any error messages then locate the file "Setup.exe" or "Setup" and right click and click on "Properties".

7. In the new window click on the "Compatibility" tab and run the program in compatibility mode for "Windows XP Service Pack 2" and then click on "Apply".

8. After applying changes double click on "Setup.exe" or "Setup" to launch the installation.

You can delete all the files copied from the CD after completing the installation

The game files need to be copied to the hard drive because the files on the game disk would not let you make changes while on the disk.

There are lot of files that need to be changed in order to get full functionality and to communicate with operating system and the hardware, hence there is no guarantee that the game might run even in cases where you will successfully install an older version of the game with the above mentioned steps.

The same set of steps can be used for installation of older games installation on Windows Vista.

This solution is not for the XBOX version of the game, this is only for the PC version of the game Bard's Tale.

You can still try to make the game compatible for installing it on the Windows XP 64 bit by following the steps below.

7. In the new window click on the "Compatibility" tab and run the program in compatibility mode for "Windows XP" and then click on "Apply".

8. After applying changes double click on "Setup.exe" or "Setup" to launch the installation.

You can delete all the files copied from the CD after completing the installation

The game files need to be copied to the hard drive because the files on the game disk would not let you make changes while on the disk.

The same set of Compatibility steps can be used for installation of older games installation on Windows XP 64 bit and Windows Vista.

Again, this solution is not for the XBOX version of the game.
