Question about Husqvarna Lawn Tractor - 54in. Deck, 26 HP, Model# LGT2654

1 Answer

Need to replace the gear shift selector assembly. It broke where the shifter attaches to the rod.How do you remove this with the least effort. There is a nut cover on one side.the gear selector attaches to it with a big spring and there are 2 large metal parts that are integral to the shaft.I dont see an easy way to this short of taking everything off that attaches to the chassis under there.thanks

2003 Mitsubishi montero sport the shifter is broke and i need to know.removal of center console

you don't need to remove the whole console it is in sections, take a screwdriver and gently pry the front and side of the cup holder releasing the clips then pull strait up, you will see 2 phillips screws underneath remove those and pull up and back on the shifter cover, to remove the shift knob pry the lower part of the knob away from the from the top you will see 2 set screws underneath this cover then pull shifter strait up, don't forget to unplug the light for the gear selector from underside of the cover or the light assembly will break ( glued in place), the boot for the 2wd/4wd selector is held in place by 4 Phillips screws from the underside of the cover remove these and the boot stays on the selector and you can remove the cover

What makes up the governor assembly in a Chrysler 300M

All the parts you listed are internal to the transmission. The cable is external - it runs from the shifter lever to the range selector lever on the transmission. Their analysis doesn't sound right though. If the cable is broken, the shifter should move freely as you described. But that (broken cable and bent lever) happened AFTER the problem of the transmission being stuck in reverse. Your efforts to unstick probably bent the shifter and broke the cable. It would seem something was jammed before you tried to get out of reverse, possibly inside the transmission.

It wont go into reverse

This is a relatively common problem on these new Chryslre 300s.The failure is in the shifter assembly itself and it will need to be replaced. But for now, to limp around, you can actually still shift the car, you just cannot use the shifter. You will need to remove the center console and find where the shift linkage attaches to the shifter assembly. Remove the linkage and you can manually shift until you replace the shifter assembly. Here is how to remove the center console:

techmecho_5.gif

Apply the parking brake.Turn the ignition switch to the On position, apply the service brakes and place the gear selector lever into the Neutral position.Turn the ignition switch to the Off position and release the service brakes.Disconnect and isolate the battery negative cable.Remove the mat (2) from the cubby bin at the front of the floor console.Open the lid of the console rear bin and remove the mat (3) from the rear bin.Remove the two screws (1) that secure the front of the console shifter bezel to the console.Using a trim stick unsnap the console bezel from the console.Remove the shifter bezel from around the gear selector lever.

techmecho_6.gifRemove the three 8 mm bolts (2) from the rear bin that secure the console to the floor panel transmission tunnel.Remove the two screws (3) that secure the front of the console to the instrument panel.Slide the console rearward far enough to access and disconnect the jumper wire connector (4) from the accessory power outlet on the underside of the console.Remove the floor console from the vehicle.-------------- Thankyou.

Not shifting properly

This problem could be related to bad cables or the linkage assembly.Remove the center console and get down to the shifter where you can visually see the cables, and where the cables attach to the shifter. The cables should be hooked up at the transmission, but removed from the shifter. One cable is the neutral gate position, and the other is the actual gear selector cable.Manually operate the cables and see if the gears will engage using the cables. If the cables work, you have narrowed it down to the shifter itself. If the cables don't work and gears can't be engaged using the cables, then the cables are bad. Also look over the shifter assembly visually, look for cracks or broken metal while shifting it through the gears.--------- Check it.Thanks.

Why my chrysler sebring won't shift out of park

If your brake lights work, then the problem is in your shifter assembly. Don't make the costly mistake of paying 342 dollars for a new shift assembly.  Go to Lowe's and buy a variety spring pack for $3.97.  You will need to use the longest spring in the box for the fix.  You will need a needle nose pliers and a flathead screwdriver.  Using the screwdriver, remove the the chrome ring around the shifter assembly.  This will give you a half inch space in diameter of the assembly to work with.  Now you will need to use the needle nose to slightly make a hook out of the spring ends.  Attach one end of the spring to the thin key lock wire on the left of the assembly.  You will use the needle nose to guide one end of the spring down there and attach it gently to where the wire meets the pink plastic lever.  Now carefully guide the other end underneath the black LED power lines and bring it towards the bottom part of the assembly.  Attach the spring to any hole you find where the spring can sit underneath and out of the way from the chrome ring you will ultimately put back on last.

The problem is the pink lever doesn't move back when the driver pushes the gear selector from park all the way to the right.  The pushing pin is a peice of plastic with the frailty of a toothpick.  Over time, this plastic breaks off and leaves the driver stuck in park.  To test if this is your problem do the following:  with your right hand move the gear selector from park, all the way to the right side and at the same time with your left hand and a flathead screwdriver, gently push the pink plastic lever down..then try moving the gear selector to reverse or drive.  If this works, then the spring solution I just described will save you literally hundreds of dollars in costly repairs.

2005 chrsyler 300... Car starts, but gear shift stuck in park. Help!

You don't need a shifter assembly. Inside your console is a small "pink" plastic lever that has a spring attached that locks the shifter in park. The small "pink" plastic piece where the spring is attached breaks off. Mine broke off at 45000 miles. Billet technologies makes a aluminum replacement for about $60.00 that won't wear out. The Chrysler forum has pictures and detailed instructions on the replacement procedure.

Sportsman 500 HO, stuck in reverse

Solution#1 worked perfectly. It only took about 15 minutes all together.
the side panel removes easily. It just slides out of the other panel. Once you have removed the handle (Shifter) and the other two bracket bolts, just place it back into the shifter housing and move it around. I was amazed at how easy this was to repair. I also turned the ignition to the on position to see if it was changing gears and it was.
Solution #1 repost originally posted by Jpach
I tried this today and it worked. Pull the sideplate from the ATV so that you have access to the gear shifter assembly. Unbolt the gearshift assembly from the mounting bracket. There are two bolts at the rear near the two rods that exit the assembly and three on the bottom. When the bolts are out, remove the assembly from the mounting bracket. Hold it in your hand and move the shift lever through all of the positions. This won't actually shift the transmission, but it should free up the rods in the assembly. Remount the assembly with the five bolts and it should now be able to shift out of reverse.

My sunfire is not shifting properly....

I had a similar problem except i could shift to first and third and fifth but not 2nd or 4th or reverse. the only thing that came to my mind was new transmission but that is not the case. It was a way i could but it was so frustrated. I am certain it is the shifting cables. The name of the part you need to get is TRANSMISSION SHIFTING CABLES. Only the dealership has them, about $200.00 got them and installed but a certified mechanic. I have no problems shifting into any gear at all. Hope this information helps. Any info contact me at yellowise20@aol.com
