Question about Xerox DocuPrint 4512 Laser Printer

1 Answer

I've got the "cover open" error message all the time.

From the moment i power up the printer he gives the error message "cover open". I've tried to reinstall the drum allready, but that won't help. I thought that in the past the fans immediate started when the printer was powered. Now he "hangs" with the message cover open.

Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

I was already thinking that it could be some kind of switch which wasn't working properly. After your reaction i was convinced in this opinion and retried to find the broken switch. And i found it !

The hardest part is to figure out how to open the printer and how to reach these switches. In the end it seemed to be the switch from the front cover which wasn't working properly. The plastic where it was attached to was broken. I fixed it with some tape and a piece of rope :-) Unfortunately i have seen another crac in the plastic located in the screw holes of the motor. For now the printer is working again, but how long before the next breakdown?

Thanks again Trickieone for the suggestion

A couple of possibilities.
There are two types of interlock switches on those machines.
First step would be to look all around the machine for any cover that may be slightly ajar.
Then look for broken plastic tabs on those covers that may actuate a switch.
Also some of those switches are actuated by a magnet, and one of the magnets may have come off.
But there is one switch that is not being closed.
Just look carefully for the openings where the switches are located on the machine.

Not sure. But there is a priduct called JB Welder that you can use and it will make a bond probably stronger then the original plastic. Just be sure to prep by cleaning and usings something like scotch brite or a coarse sand paper to give it a surface to adhere to.

Works well, I have used it many times to save the day on things like that.

And yes, the printers and multiunction products have a lot packed into small spaces. and those covers, were due to some one running a high volume machine with interlocks cheated. Caught some necklaces in the machine, Ever since then most machines have covers that all interlock and interlock switches everywhere. And cheap switches at that.

Glad you found it. Some of those things can make a person crazy.

Try the JB, that should make a good fix.

I'm having cartridge problems with lexmark z2420 printer

The problem could be due to a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In One (AIO) or by a short in one if the printheads. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge issues:

  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
  3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
  4. Close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  7. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Error 5100 what do i do???

Error 5100 points to a "carriage jam"
The carriage is the assembly that contains the print head and cartridges.
This error can be difficult to solve because various things can cause it.

Since this is a new printer, maybe there is some packing or packing tape that is obstructing the carriage.
Verify that the carts and print head are installed properly.

Check the gears as best you can for any obstructions.

If the carriage moves to a center position when you open the cover as if to change cartridges, try a reset to clear the error message :

1. Turn off printer (use button, don't unplug)

2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.

3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.

4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.

5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.

6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.

7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.

8. Your printer should respond as normal

Sometimes you have to try this a couple of times, if you've n

ImageCLASS 2300 not printing, check printer cover message

Had the same problem spent 2 hours opening and closing everything trying to reset turn off and on etc. Here is how I fixed it, slammed all the doors on left side starting with above cartridge to cartridge door and 2 little doors by paper hard - and I mean hard - and whammo error cleared immediately. Sensors that check for open door obviously stick and report they are open when they are really closed. I am sure this saved me an expensive service call.

DEVE Home Sensor Error

Dev. Home error can be fixed by stretching out a solenoid spring on the power cord side of the printer. The solenoid acts as a clutch to stop the spinning developer actuator at the right spot.

The problem is that the spring gets weak over time / the cogs round out over time and the solenoid finger is overcome by the spinning cogs, and resulting in selecting the wrong developer.

Open up the right side (power cord side) of the printer (take off top cover, then take off side cover). Then, find a solenoid (little metal square) that touches the white plastic vertical spur gear. Take the spring off the solenoid. Now, put the spring back on - only this time you will attach one anchor point to the middle of the spring as to pre-stretch the spring for more tension.

Printer mechnical error

Resolving a blinking light When an error occurs, the power light will blink continuously and an error message will appear on the computer screen. Read the onscreen error message explaining the problem and follow its solution. If no error message appears, go to the Maintenance section in the Printer Assistant and click any of the four main buttons. This will prompt the software to check the status of the printer and the error message should then appear. The following table lists possible causes and what to do to correct the problem. Symptom Possible cause What to do to correct the problem Power light is blinking Printer cover is open Close the cover. Printer is out of paper Insert appropriate media in the In tray. Printer has difficulty picking up label media
  • Change the printers print mode setting.
  • Change the printer's paper type selection.
  • Use a different brand of label media.
There is a paper jam Follow each of these steps until the problem is resolved:

  1. Remove the paper from both paper trays.
  2. Press the Power button once. Wait a moment for the paper jam to clear.
  3. If printing labels, verify that a label did not become detached while passing through the printer. If the paper jam was not resolved, continue on to the next steps.
  4. Remove the rear access door.
  5. Remove the paper jam through the opening at the back of the printer.
  6. Replace the rear access door.
  7. Reload the paper into the paper In tray.
  8. Print the document.
There is a problem with a print cartridge Follow each of these steps until the problem is resolved:

  1. Remove and then reinsert the print cartridge(s) into the printer.
  2. Clean the print cartridges automatically using the Clean Cartridges option in the Printer Assistant.
  3. Manually clean the print cartridges and print cartridge cradles:
    • Open the printer cover and wait until the carriage moves to the center.
    • Press the Power button to turn off the printer.
    • Disconnect power cord from the back of the printer.
    • Remove the print cartridges and place them on a piece of paper with the nozzle plate facing up.
    • Lightly moisten a cotton swab with distilled water.
    • Clean the face and edges of the print cartridges with the swab. Do not touch the print cartridge ink nozzles or copper contacts.
    • Wipe the underside of the print cartridge cradle walls using a clean, moistened swab.
    • Reinsert the print cartridges.
    • Close the printer cover.
    • Connect the power cord to the back of the printer.
    • Press the Power button to turn on the printer.
  4. Calibrate the print cartridges.
  5. If the light is still flashing, replace the print cartridges.
Power light is blinking and/or there are missing lines or banding issues on the printout The print cartridge has partial loss of electrical interface with the carriage connections
  1. Print a printer self-test by holding the power button down with a pencil and opening and closing the top cover four times.
  2. Check the nozzle self-test pattern in the self-test print out. If one or more of the solid rectangular areas are missing, an electrical contact problem may be present.
  3. Remove and then reinsert the print cartridge(s) into the printer.
  4. Print the document.
  5. If the problem persists, follow the steps listed above for cleaning the print cartridges and print cartridge cradle.
  6. Try printing again. If the problem continues, replace the print cartridges.

I had that problem too.

Unplug the printer.
Hold the printer cover open while you plug in the printer.
Then wait for the printer to power on while still holding the cover open.
Then close the cover.
The buttons should work and th error message should be gone.

It worked for me.
