Question about Samsung SyncMaster 2233BW 22" LCD Monitor

2 Answers

Have a Samsung SyncMaster 225bw. Noticed lately that when I turn on monitor and computer, the monitor does not show anything even once computer has completed bootup phase. The power button is blinking on and off continuously on the monitor and after a awhile (2-3 mins), the screen finally starts to phase into a white wash....I will normally have to turn it off and on and then I get my picture coming up from desktop as it flickers for about a minute until it stops (starts fast and slows down) and eventually the screen brightens up and I can work with it normally.... This just seems like the screen is about dead....any advice?

dvi connection on computer to standard serial on monitor itself....
    nVidia 8800 x2

Monitor totally died yesterday night...I had to replace it with one of my standby CRTs....what a horrible difference now...especially with going from 22" to 17" again.

Will end up replacing the monitor with a new one...

Hello, The Samsung 225BW has a known issue with the backlight power supply going out. The dark screen with green power light or power light blinking are the classic symptoms of this issue. Check out our web site at: We have a step by step repair guide with pictures posted that will guide to doing the repair yourself. It involves changing a few capacitors on the power supply. If you can solder then you should be able to do the repair yourself. If you don't want to do the repair we do offer a repair service for $30 plus return shipping. If you have any additional questions just let us know at: I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution. Buddy Corporate Computer

It sounds a bit dodgy. I have a Samsung 2232gw. What graphics card do you have, and do you connect it via vga or dvi?

Open the monitor, examine the circuit boards. Look for small components that look like small cans, these are capacitors. If you see any that look bulged on top, then your problem can probably be solved by replacing these. Check out the following sites;

Follow the directions and good luck!

Dyderich, Yes, You should read up on all the causes of LCD monitor failures!! Your symptom will be among the top three cause/complaint of failures. LCD units can be repaired. If you have never used a soldering pencil, digital volt meter, DMM or Oscilloscope, then you should keep yur gruby fingers on the outside of the monitor. Your monitor's "switch-mode-power-supply" and the "cold-cathode-fluorescent-tube's" and the "inveter" power supply that lights up the tubes will need to be evaluated(trouble shoot) by a TECHNICIAN who knows all there is to know about CCFT's and what it takes to get them to light up!!! Or you can trade up to a younger model, and repair/refurbish the old and keep as a spare. You could also see if SAMSUNG has some sort of swapout program for newly refurbished same model monitors? ? ? Check with a Samsung dealer and or their website. Bye for now. I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel

This type of monitor problem is usually cause by a failure of the capacitors in the power supply board. What is happening is the power supply is not starting up correctly so the back lights are not coming up to full brightness. Here is a link to a repair guide that will show you how to dis-assemble the unit and repair the power supply board.
If you can do a little soldering then you can do the repair yourself.

My SyncMaster 225BW 22 inch does unpredictable displays when my PC is first started up, or awakes from sleep mode. (display is shifted to the right, or brightness is stuck on very low, etc.). Before, I...

The brightness issues with this model are usually caused by a power supply that is starting to fail. There are parts called capacitors that start to fail, when this happens the power supply can not get to the correct voltage outputs that it needs to properly run the back light bulbs. This type of problem causes either the dim display that you have or a wavy display until the unit can stabilize the output voltage. It is repairable if you can do a little soldering. You will need to replace the 5 capacitors on the power supply board. Here is a link to a repair guide for that unit that shows what needs to be replaced.
This is an easy fix, about 15 minutes once you have the parts.

Monitor is ghosting, white trails.

You might want to try detaching the monitor and trying it on another computer unit to see if the problem still exists.  If it only occurs on your unit, then try updating the drivers on your system and see if that solves it.

If you look very closely at the screen with the computer on, you may be able to see the desktop etc. but very dark. If this is so, then the blacklight is not working most probably caused but the inverter failing. This can be repaired but is best left to a professional.
If you wanted to fix it this yourself then Google for the inverter data and instructions on how to open the monitors case etc.
