The solution could be inadequate lubrication. The juke box is in a private house and was purchased new it is seldom ever played, there is certainly no wear on it.I think repair shops in my area are like hens teeth.I have lubd it and will await results and let you know.

I am fairly mecanically minded, but I usually refrain from interfring if I have no manual or idea of what to look for.
Is the needle arm moved by a belt. If I just touch and move the needle arm (as it starts to move back)everything is fine and the record plays ok. On finishing the needle arm is touched by the record arm, but continues ok,and the needle arm returns to rest just above and nearly in line with the turntable. Is this in its right position. I don,t mind taking the unit apart if I have an idea of what to look for.
I am looking for a service man but I am in Ireland and have no success so far.

I'm unsure as to what you are looking for in a solution, but the problem as described could be a multitude of things ranging from a worn belt, a broken lever, inadequate lubrication or many other things. It sounds to me that you might be best served by contacting a repair shop in your area.

I'm sorry, but I haven't been in one of those units before and can't offer any specific advice. Hopefully you can find a local serviceman who can fix it on site.

Picks record ,clicks twice ,returns record without playing

Mechanism for moving arm over and onto record is fubar. Probably stuck and the clicks you hear are the motor fighting a losing battle and returning arm to rest mount.

Remove stylus and play with arm and simulate turn on cycle to see how it works and where the jam is- fix and then put stylus back in - those little suckers are expensive.

The tone arm drops onto the record, but then continues moving across the record without playing the record. Anyone know what's going on?

Does the needle actually contact the record? If not, you may be missing a "pad" under the record, or you may be simply missing the needle that needs to be there to follow the grooves.

When we try to play LP records, the arm stops half way through the record and wont move any further so we cant listen to the whole LP. We always make sure we have it switched to the correct rpm.

If it's on ONE particular record, it may have a deep groove that the needle cannot move past. It could also be that you don't have enough pressure on the needle which you can adjust on the arm with a turn of the counter-weight (should be a knob on the other end from the needle)

Record return arm doesn't go low enough to pick up record

Lubrication issue. Use some light oil (NOT 3 in 1 household - it has paraffin and will eventually clog up the parts) on all of the arms moving parts.
Be sure to get in between the gears and the moving cylinders that clamp the record.
This should resolve it. Rock Olas are known for this issue. The original grease dries up, and people neglect to lubricate their jukeboxes, even though, like a car, they are machines that require it from time to time.

Machine appears to record per instruction manual but will not play anything back and the instruction manual includes NOTHING on playback except to hit STOP when we're through recording, back up to the...

it appears to be recording but is it really?
when you are recording there are two levels you should see moving up and down on the screen. the input volume and the recording volume per track. dont forget to arm the track. tascam has a silly way to arm the track on some of there unit. its combination of buttons. something like hold down the record button and press the track arm button then release both. when youre ready to record press play.

Fisher price 1978 record player

The Fisher Price record player has a device that prevented kids from pressing the needle down and sctratching the record. If you look at the cartridge where the needle is inserted, you will see that it floats up and down. The problem is that this keeps the needle from having enough pressure to play the record. Pennies just make the cartridge recede further into the arm. If you wedge something above the cartridge, the needle won't float and the it will play your records. I've had four of these and none of them worked until I figured this out.

Early tone arm pickup

On some record players there is an adjusting screw at the back of the tone arm that adjusts the tone arm drop in location but I don't think it will adjust the pick up point. That is controled by a steel rod under the record player deck that moves over and pushes a little trip lever near the center of the platter so that a gear is engauged and the end of record cycle is started. I'm not sure but you may be able to find an adjustment under the deck that is near the rotation point of the tone arm that will adjust that rod so that it will pickup later. Hope this helps some.
