It looks like that the display (LCD Data) Strip had gone Faulty. Try switching the mobile for several times to ON/OFF after removing the battery. If the problem still persists it either shows bad software or Hardware (Strip Damage) problem. The solution to the scenario you quoted is more biased towards a hardware problem i.e Strip replacement.
Hope you get a Clear Picture of the trouble you are facing,
Dear customer

The easiest is to just replace the lcd screen on you w580i. The backlight may have burned out making it blank or it the LCD connector may have come loose.
A new LCD screen runs about 15 dollars shipped from ebay.
The W580i LCD is easy, easy to replace. Probably one of the easiest I have ever done.
Check out the following link for instructions on replacing the LCD display and links to buy the screen.
It's quite easy and done in about 5 minutes! You just have to remove the aluminium-panel on the backside of the display-slider (when slider is opened and you look at the mobile from backside)! This part is fixed with adhesive and so you can remove it carefully by lifting an edge of it with a thin slotted screwdriver (for instance) and then insert something like a credit card in this lifted edge an remove the whole panel with it. After this you'll see two little screws you also have to remove before you can take off the front-cover of your mobile. Now there is only one screw left to remove. It's on the front-side beneath the display. When you're done removing all this screws, you have to be very careful. The old display can be removed by disconnecting it's flex-cable from the circuit board (this little board you just removed the mounting screw from, the cable-connector is on the backside of it).
Now you only have to insert the new display, connect it to the circuit board an do all steps in reverse to assemble it again.
