Question about Toshiba Satellite A25-S207 Notebook

A45-S150 Satellite Fan is noisy

I need to replace the primary fan under the motherboard. The fan is making excessive noise and I want to replace it before I hit the road

I have successfully pulled and cleaned the secondary fan and removed the horrible lint in the heat sink and replace memory and drive.

I just don't want to damage the DVD or other components in getting the mother board off to remove the primary fan

If you don't want to get deep down into the unit, here's a shortcut. You can get a can of compressed air and a household vacuum cleaner.

With the vacuum on and under the circular vents for the primary fan, spray bursts of compressed air into the exit vents. Not just the center but all the way across the vent with the tube as close as possible.

The lint you loosen with the compressed air will be sucked into the vacuum cleaner. That is only a shortcut. The actual full process requires disassembly and cleaning of the thermal compound, and reapplying new thermal compound. You fan should now be able to run at low speed until warm enough to require high speed. If you follow directions well, this should hold you until you can have it properly done.

NOTE: Have the vacuum handy when you first turn on the laptop too, incase lint is blown back into a vane of the fan and not sucked out with the vac. If lint clog is too big to be vacuumed out, it will again lodge into the exit vent, and not provide 100% ventilation but should still be sufficient to idle down the fan speed.

The worse case scenario is that the bearings in the actual fan is wearing out, or the fan is out of balance, and need replacing. (This is also on fans that are brushless)

And yes I am an expert.

I could not find the manual for your unit, but on this link it shows step-by-step how to dissasemble an A35 unit. It is very similar to the A45 and it should get you started in the right direction:

Runs very slow... hard disk constantly running

You need to defrag your drive, make sure no unnecessary resources are running in the background and delete your temp folder as this fills with allsorts of rubbish you do not need and slows the operating system significantly.
