Question about Raypak Millivolt Heater

1 Answer

Heater won't ignite.

Have had this problem off and on for a year. Sometimes the burner will not ignite. (Most of the time it does.) I open it up and check all the wire connections and usually it starts working. Last night, it did not. (Pilot is burning - natural gas heater for a hot tub - RayPack Millivolt)

If you pull the wires that come from the pilot at the gas valve and clean the contacts this may help. If not you may need to replace the pilot generator or the whole pilot assembly.

Ignition locked

This means that the heater tried to fire 3 times without igniting. Cut the breaker to the heater to reset and try it again. Sometimes when a heater hasn't been fired in a while spiders will build webs in the burner orifices. Check the one below the ignitor.

Furnace burners won't ignite

Assuming this is a gas furnace, when the thermostat calls for heat the pilot heats an igniter to produce voltage that opens the burner gas valve. In your furnace, the igniter may have failed and the burner can't fire up

I have a richmond 40 gallon powervent water heater. It seems to light, but shuts itself off after about 5 seconds. I am leaning toward the vapor sensor. I know there are reset codes, but have not been...

1) Could be the vapor sensor. That's a suspect.

2) General troubleshoot: clean burner and combustion parts, clean air intake, bleed air from gas line, check gas pressure. Color of gas flame should be clear blue, and flame should be strong, and no combustion by-product dripping back into combustion chamber. No chemicals of any kind stored in air supply. Plenty of fresh air. Water heater in hot attic needs more air. If water heater has igniter, then igniter has to be checked. Flame sensor must be positioned correctly and operational at time of combustion, or sensor will signal gas control to turn off gas. Gas control valve can be bad.

3) Specific troubleshoot begins with identifying gas control valve and reading the service manual.
I think the Rheem/Richmond power vent has intellivent gas control

Code 11

Before calling service technician, open following links for Rheem troubleshooting resources including error codes.
Error codes are considered start-point for troubleshooting.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Troubleshoot-Rheem-Tankless-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/ErrorcodeTroubleshooting.pdf

Error 11 is no ignition.
This problem can probably be solved by routine yearly maintenance shown in instruction manual which recommends: Yearly cleaning, adjustment and inspection of burner and combustion parts.
The yearly maintenance would check incoming gas supply, venting, wiring and grounding, and burner and ignition parts.
All gas water heaters today require same maintenance: tankless require yearly, and tank-type require periodic (1-3 years)

I have a magic chef oven model # 61S04PAW. the

Electric gas igniters sometimes get stuck in one position causing a clicking sound. The clicking sound that you hear is the electric arc that is pulsing from the igniter conductor (wire) to ground (the gas burner). It receives power from the electrical outlet that the stove is plugged into.
Residue from food and sometimes cleaning products may be preventing the igniter from producing a spark (Arc) to the base of the burner. This is a common problem that occurs when the stove has been cleaned or food is allowed to build up. Make sure that the igniter and the burner base are clean and dry. This will help with proper operation. Oven cleaner and a small tooth brush may be used to accomplish this. Another problem with ignition may occur if you have too little (touching) or too much space between the igniter and the base of the burner; it will prevent the burner from igniting. You should only have a little more space than the thickness of a nickel between the burner base and the igniter. A good “blue” arc from the igniter to the burner base is optimal. If this doesn’t work, you may need to replace the electric igniter module. Good luck.

Lennox furnace 17 yeanrs old. flame comes on and the shuts down sometimes right away some times in a few minutes. We have the furnace go down to 58 at night. It takes all day to get back to 67.

Sounds like a dirty flame sensor.
Also 9 degrees is a large swing to recover. Most specialist will advise no more than a 5 degree set back, otherwise recovery time eliminates any savings you may achieve.

Electronic water heater burner often won't light tho pilot's on

it sounds like you pilot lite is to far away from the burner, make sure that the burner is sitting in it;s purch, look thru the site glass it can be moved by hitting or bumping into the out side of the gas tubes on the outside of water heater, if not, the burner assembly may have soot on it. you might also want to make sure the filters are not clogged on the shut offs that will give it less pressure then it needs to make the unit come on,, write me , gary1121@aol.com

Heater Burner ignites but main blower motor will not turn on.

it sound like the blower motor may be seizing up. try spining the blade by hand to see if it feels free or not. the motor could be trying to turn but can then tripping itself out on overload. (most motors have built in safety overloads which will trip during an overcurrant event. aka too many amps.) you may have to replace blower motor

You might have a slight odor of gas when the burner first ignites. Some gas does escape before it completely ignites. It shouldn't smell after 2 years of use. If you can see the pilot flame burning from the top of the heater, the heater pilot assembly is pushed over too far. The pilot fumes could be escaping in the room and cause a smell.
