Turn the vacuum upside down so you can see the bottom of the head (the part that comes in contact with the floor). There are screws that need to be removed so the plate can be taken off, remove those screws. Now the brush is accessible, lift the brush out just enough to slip the belt on then after making sure the belt is still on the motor, push the bruch back into its place. Then replace the plate and screw it back together and you are done.

You are probably going to have to get a new belt, if you do you can usually get a replacement at WalMart for cheap or you can go here: http://www.dealtime.com/xPO-Eureka_Vacuum_Belt_Style_U_Extended_Life

If you decide to go to WalMart, look for the belt that says "Fits Eureka 5800 series...", it will list others too but as long as 5800 series is on the package it will work. Hope this helps!

Dyson I sucked a towel up by mistake an it started smoking an burning smell turned off power what damage will I av caused

As a general rule when you pick up a sock or towel or anything laying on the floor that is too big for the vac to handle, it generally stops the brush roll, which in turn stops the belt and that in turn makes the belt burn in two in about 20 seconds, if you don't catch it in time. Now on most vacuums this isn't a major repair. Most folks, with a modicum of mechanical knowledge can change a belt on about 90% of the upright vac's around, but the Dyson's aren't in that 90%, they're in the ten % that make it incredibly difficult to change a simple belt. You'll need to take it to your friendly neighborhood vac repair shop and have them put on a new belt, depending on which belt that broke. Have them give you an estimate first. You may be surprised at what it costs to have a belt changed, if it's the one that's on the clutch assembly.

Eureka Boss - Belt is not broke but brush will not turn. I have already turned it over - checked belt - and pushed the reset button.

The belt may look fine but they can still be stretched or worn and it won' turn the brush. Try changing the belt and see what it does. You can get Eureka belts here:

Is there a drive belt on the heritage 84

Yes it has a belt. Could be the belt or a worn out brush roller, or you don't have the height adjustment set right. But I would check the belt first. It is the cheapest part and if you haven't changed it lately it probably needs it anyhow.

If you haven't changed the belt before it's a little tricky.

Turn the knob on the front to the belt off position, and unlatch the top of the nozzle to remove it. Pull the nozzle off and turn the knob to the belt on position. Take off the bottom plate and take out the old brush roller and belt. Pay special attention to how the roller comes out. You don't want to get it in backward.

Put the new belt on the roller and center it. Put the roller back into the nozzle and put the bottom plate back on. Turn the knob to the belt off position you should be able to see through the hole in the back, the hook pick up the belt and stretch in up.

Put the nozzle back on the unit, latch the top, and turn the knob to the belt on position. Simple Right? LOL

It has to be one of the most complicated machines to change a belt on .

P.S. they usually give you extra belt when you buy it, and the new style knurled belts work fine as well.

Good Luck-Don't be afraid to ask another question if that doesn't solve your problem.

How to change a band on a kirby vacuum?

I think you mean belt??

Take the nozzle of, remove the brush roll, put the a new belt over the brush roll, re-install and put the bottom plate on, making sure that the belt is in the middle of the brush roll. Turn the big knob on the front until it locks, when it grabs the belt it will be hard to turn. Re-install the nozzle on the machine and lock it down. Turn the knob again all of the way, this will release the belt unto the pulley.

Eureka 5197 self propelled bagless upright

Did you check the brush roll when you changed the belt? The smell of rubber would inducate a belt slipping. So if the brush roll (part #61308-2)isn't turning, the belt would get hot and would be slipping. If the motor sounds real loud, then you could have a bad motor(part #60775-4).

Turn vacuum over, remove looks like 3 or 4 screws, then the top cover will come off, exposing the belt and brush roll. Part 61520 style J belt.
