To reset to floating mode press [2nd][FLO]. The scientific display mode will be replaced by the floating point mode.
Hope it helps.

Answers look weird

Your calculator is configured to display results in Scientific notation
8*5=40=4.*10^(01). Exit scientific mode by resetting the calculator or changing the display mode to fixed or normal.

I am working on algebra homework, and can't figure out how to get my casio fx 300 es to use scientific notation

You can set the number display mode to be SCI. Press [SHIF][MODE] and look for the number to the right of which is written SCI. Enter that number. You may be asked to specify the number of digits after the decimal mark 0 tilda 9. Select an appropriate number and enter the corresponding key.
If you want to ENTER numbers in scientific format, enter them the usual way. When you arrive to the power of 10 press the [x 10^X] key, followed by the exponent. Use the change sign key (-) to enter a negative exponent.

I am not sure what my calculator is doing I am trying to solve a regular math problem such as (.0011)(2.4) and it keeps giving me 2.64 x 10 to the -03 power

You have your calculator set to give your answer in scientific notation. If you would like it to give your answer in decimal form you need to change the settings. On my calculator which is an older version, you just press [mode] three times. On your screen you will see fix sci and norm as well as the numerals 1, 2 and 3. press [3] on your key pad. You should see norm 1~2? then press [2] on your keypad and this will have changed your settings back to plain decimals.
I hope this helps!

My TI-89 calculators finance app is giving me the wrong answers by a few 1000 or so and increases how far off it is the larger the figure

Make sure your decimals are set to the correct number.
And also you can perform a factory reset on the unit to make sure all is back to normal.
Just be aware that it will delete any information which you have stored into your calc.

After using the TI-89 and changing modes several times, you may set the calculator back
to all default modes by pressing 2nd 6 (MEM), F1(Reset) and 3 or by highlighting
3:Default and pressing ENTER. To reset all memory press 2nd, 6 (MEM) then F1(Reset)
and select 1: All.

When we set the font it prints for about 2 pages , then returns to the 17 font. We need the 10 font to be able to read the huge amount of items printed. Any way to get it to stay on the 10 font?

You didn't mention which document type or from which program you are trying to print but the commands for the printer are normally embedded invisibly in the document and sent to the printer to accomplish font changes, punctuation, etc.
We might have a better answer and a suggestion if you comment back to this thread with the name/version of the program that produced the document.

Casio fx 992s when i try to do simple calculations like 1.33360 - 1.33041.....the answer is 3.19 and other little numbers in the top right. i dont get this or like this. i want a proper 5 decimal...

It sounds like you need a manual for your calculator. You can download a scanned copy here, and it will explain what all the keys are for. For now, here is the way to set the calculator for a five decimal place display:
  1. Press the MODE key three times. A menu offering choices of FIX, SCI or NORM will appear.
  2. Press the 1 key to select FIX mode. The message "0~9?" will appear.
  3. Press the 5 key. This tells the calculator to display five digits after the decimal.
This mode setting will hold until you change it to something else, or when you turn off the calculator.

Spend some time reading the manual and work with the calculator. It's a powerful tool with a lot of capabilities. Thanks for using Fixya!

I am trying to calculate a problem using scientific notation but it is not giving me the correct answer and my calculator is set to 9 dec places the equation is 1.9x10^10- x 453.6 / 163871 I keep getting...

Your notation expression contains an extra symbol ( either the - or the second x).
If I enter
(1.9x10^10)x453.6/163871 I get 5.262148845 x 10^7 about 5.3 x10^7
If I enter
(1.9x10^10 - 453.6)/163871 I get 1.159 x 10^5.
Your result is off by a factor of 100 to 10000.
As to the scientific display mode, you set it by pressing [MODE][->][SCI][ENTER] [2nd][QUIT]. You can leave the Float option to 9 digits if you want.

Hope it helps.

Viewsonic n3251w will no longer display Closed Captions

You can reset your viewsonic remote control by removing the batteries, and holding the power button down for 10 seconds. Just 10 minutes ago I repaired my remote, which was doing absolutely nothing, not even turning the set off and on, Called Viewsonic, they told me this, and it worked ! Yay !

How do I adjust date of my watch bought from GAP

I think I figured it out: (Start + Reset) = toggle alarm on/off ("ALM" will display in upper left corner when alarm is on. (press Mode once) will bring you in chrono mode, where "start" button starts and stops the chrono, and "reset" button resets it back to zero (press Mode once more) will bring you to setting of time for alarm. Set the "hour" value by pressing "start" repeatedly, then press "reset" and set the "minute" value by pressing "start" repeatedly (press Mode once more) will bring you to setting of time for actual time. Reset the "Seconds" value to zero by pressing "start" button once, then press "reset" and set the "minute" value by pressing "start" repeatedly, then press "reset" and set the "hour" value by pressing "start" repeatedly (if it shows "H" in upper right corner, time will be displayed euro-style 0:00-23:59, if it shows "A" time will be displayed 12am/12pm), then press "reset" and set the "day of month" value by pressing "start" repeatedly, then press "reset" and set the "month" value (1-12) by pressing "start" repeatedly, then press "reset" and set the "day of week" value (Su-Sa) by pressing "start" repeatedly (press Mode once more) voila!
