HELLO
I think what you have here is a degaussing problem causing purity errors on colours. When you switch your TV on there is a coil around the rear of the tube which is connected to a posistor and this is to get rid of any residual magnetism.
It sounds like the circuit is not working correctly possibly caused by a faulty posistor. Another reason could be that you may be using the set by putting it in standby all the time - the degauss does not work as it should by doing this - the best way is to switch it off properly after use and on again by the switch on the TV itself.
If the problem does not go away, then you'll have to get a service engineer to sort it.
I wish you well with your problem (:-)

It must also be said that if there are any loudspeakers next to the TV which are unshielded types, this will also cause you great problems with a CRT TV.

It might be due to picture tube problem... As its too old, the picture tube might be weak and hence you might get colors at the edges.. Better replace the picture tube with a new one to solve this problem

Tv turns purple and green if on too long

try dusting out the inside, or maybe using a vaccum hose to get all the dust out.

Purple and green scrolling lines

This may be a mechanical or electronic problem that is dealing with the sync of the colour wheel. There is basicly no colour lock. This may be the replacement of the associated circuit board, or the motor assembly or the colour wheel.

The link below is describing about how DLP technology works. They are relating to a front projection type. With the rear screen type, the basic technology is very much the same for decoding the pictures from the TV signal.

Screen Colours incorrect

Your CRT (Picture Tube) screen mask has become magnetized. You need to degauss the CRT. Have you moved you TV lately or at any point had speaker sitting next to it? These are two things that can magnetize the screen mask. Well in any event you will need what is called a degaussing coil to demagnetize the CRT.

Here is the degaussing procedure:

Standing about 10 feet from the TV Screen turn on the degaussing coil which is in a vertical position and rotate it in a circular motion walking towards the TV .

Once about .5 to 1 inch from the TV continue to rotate the degaussing coil and the move away from the TV while still rotating the coil.

Once at the point where you began, position  the coil to a horizontal plane and quickly move the coil back about two feet and the turn the coil off.

This will deguass the CRT.

Thank you,

Colour on tv is all purples and greens

Was the tv dropped?--try manual de-gaussing.If that does not

work, the problem may be the shadow mask inside CRT or the

yoke is loose and mis-adjusted on the neck of CRT.
