Total voltage = 37.2 and does not drop when pedal is depressed. A loud click can be heard and felt from an enclosed component behind passenger seat. Will not move forward or backward. Reverse warning signal is working.

  • rablf Sep 25, 2009

Never got a response after I checked the things I was asked to check.

  • rablf Sep 25, 2009

It will not move forward or backward. Total voltage is 32.7 vdc. A loud click can be heard and felt from an enclosed component behind the passenger seat. Reverse warning signal is working. Total voltage does not drop when pedal is depressed.

FLASH!!!! While checking voltage to motor (with pedal depressed) the cart suddenly moved forward. I was also testing what I assumed to be relays, x2, located on what I call "rotary" switch. Cart now operates intermittantly. What now?

  • rablf Sep 25, 2009

I was checking voltage at terminals and continuity across relays? using a Honeywell multi-meter. Now -cart will operate but ony at full speed.

  • rablf Sep 25, 2009

No response at partial depression. Cart operates at full pedal

  • rablf Sep 25, 2009

How can I identify the electronic speed controller? Is this the part name to ask for to obtain a replacement?

  • rablf Sep 25, 2009

Thank you very much for your time and effort.

Check the wiring for looseness, and also the ground wire (s) for corrosion.
The speed controller (if electric) may have failed.
Were the batteries replaced at any time, and re-wired incorrectly?
Does the voltage drop considerably when you try to move the cart?
Because the batteries are "charged" does not mean there is enough supply voltage for the motor to spin.
Any unusual noises or smells when trying to move the cart?
Any additional information can be helpful. Troubleshooting eletcical circuits is difficult remotely. You have to be My eyes and ears (and nose) :D

    Some additional comments....

Check the run/tow switch is fully engaged - and also continuity and proper operation of the Forward/reverse switch.

Finally - CLICK HERE for good motor tests to verify the motor is good.

Sorry for the delay - email is dragging today.

As my first response indicated - and your subsequent findings back up - the electronic speed controller is faulty. Upon disassembly, you may find diodes burned, or other parts visibly charred.

You still may accept this answer or continue asking questions that I will answer as soon as I get notification you have left a reply.

    Thanks!!

The speed controller will be under the front seat in most applications.

It will look similar to this....

    or this...

    Depending on the amperage rating.

You'll need the part number from it to match it to a replacement - as depending on the options installed - it can vary significantly.

CLICK HERE for a good source also HERE

Thanks for using FixYa - choose accept on this answer to remove it from the work queue if there are no additional concerns.

What do you mean when you say inoperable? Does it turn on at all when you turn the key? You are sure the battery works fine, or can test it and it's charged for sure? If so, do you at least get any light indicator anywhere, what about when you put it in reverse? If nothing indicates any power at all then something is probably wrong in the wiring / the starter has failed.

Hard to say, please let me know more here and I will definitely help you out.

Thanks
Tim

So while you were TESTING it it moved? Was it the second you put the tester to the terminals? If so... what kind of tester are you using? Maybe it gave it a tiny boost..

    Let me know

    Thanks
    Tim

I have a 1995 ez go electric golf cart.when it is fully charged i drive it and i start losing power.then i put it back on the charger it is only one third charged.I checked my batteries with a metor and...

if you didnt check the amperage the battery is going bad it may read 12 volt or 36 volt depending on the wiring but if it will only charge a 3rd of the way then the battery needs to be replaced because the amperage is not there to completely charge so it will lose power do to lack of voltage/amperage.
I hope this helps

NO CHARGE GETTING TO BATTERIES

If your batteries aren't holding a charge then they might need to be replaced. When batteries are used seasonally their life span is generally shorter. You can check them using a voltmeter. If you need a replacement you can check out www.batteryinternational.com or call 1-877-28-BATTERY if you are having difficulty finding the battery you need.
