You DON'T have to buy a new hard drive, even if you do have a boot sector virus. You can clean the boot sector as well if you ever need to, however, CA antivirus will get rid of your problem. They should know, they probably made it lol. For gosh sakes, don't put Norton your computer, unless you like lots of viruses.

If there is a lot of Data that you would like to retain, try burning them on a DVD as data files. The reload the OS after having formatted the entire HDD. Else buy a genuine & strong antivirus like Norton and scan the PC. However if viruses are in the MBR(boot memory ), boot sector, then you will need to buy a new hard disk and load the OS and use a good anti-virus, not the free one's available on the net!.............sodeep

Hi,

If you want to clean up your pc of viruses, Trend Micro's free online virus scanner 'Housecall' is a good way to do it.

If you want to find the serial number of your Windows installation so you can reinstall, download the 'Magic Jellybean Keyfinder' - it works well.

My computer seems to be infected by the Backdoor, Tidse virus. I have Norton/Symantec anti-virus. Every time I start up the computer, Symantec tells me that a restart is required. Then I restart & it...

Your best bet is to reimage the machine. Even if you get rid of the virus you also get rid of the file(s) it infected. That means those files are no longer available to run and they typically are critical system files. Viruses will hide and then repopulate if you don't completely format and put a clean image on the system. Because you probably don't want to loose all of your data you will want to back it up. Here is another problem because some of that data could be infected as well. I recommend removing the hard drive and use another computer that has a good anti-virus system, backing up your data to another device. Be sure to check your email files because they can bring a virus into your system. Chasing a virus can be frustrating and ultimately unsuccessful. Bite the bullet and give yourself a clean system.

I have downloaded trail of total security 2010 quickheal 32 bit for windows xp,,but unable to install it on my pc.. an error occur while installing it on pc during pre install virus scan, and install...

Either:

1. your computer is virus-infected.

2. the download trial (not "trail") itself is virus-infected.
If you did not download directly from the manufacturer's web-site:

http://www.quickheal.co.in/qh-total-security.asp

you could have downloaded a virus-infected file.

So, download a free(!) virus-scanner from http://www.prevx.com or from http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials

rather than _paying_ for anti-virus software.

My computer is infected with a worm. I think it is named ''Total Security''. Andy suggestions? Can you advise how to remove it. I cannot open any programs.

Hi, Andy.

Reboot your system and continually press F8.

Choose Safe Mode

Login to your account or Administrator

Download, install and run Spybot (http://www.Spybot.com) and MalwareBytes (http://www.Malwarebytes.com)

If still a problem, I'd suggest accessing System Restore and roll back your system to an earlier date. Just note that your data will be rolled back as well.

Hope this helps.

You should have an antivirus program always running on your computer. If you have one it should be able to get rid of the virus. If you don't have one or you have one but it can't get rid of the virus, try AVAST. It is free at http://www.avast.com. Once you install avast, it will want to run a sweep before your computer restarts. That is the best way to get rid of a virus, before the virus is activated.

Uninstall system securty 2009 in my emachine.

Normally the resolution we take is to move the data off of the hard drive. Reformat the hard drive (the best way to get rid of a virus is a reload) update the system and put the data back.

I have done an overlay installation for clients who insisted, but the viruses normally creep back into the system.

The best recommendation is a reload.

Good luck, keep us posted.

God Bless
