Looking for speed control for jonome 1600p - Janome 1600P-DB Mechanical Sewing Machine

Is this a discontinued model, with no parts available from manufacturer? I've converted a few mini lathes from the old foot pedal rheostats to solid state speed controls. It would be easier to buy a replacement, but if you can't buy them anymore, there may be another option.

The speed control is the slider bar in the front. Mine has a picture of a turtle at one end and a rabbit at the other.

I find my janome overlock machine is very slow ,i would like to know how to increase its speed

There is no speed seperate control on overlockers other than the foot control but most sew at 1500 stitches per minute, very fast compared to sewing machines.

What is your stitch length set to as this could be the problem. For normal four thread stretch seam you would want the length set to beween 2 and 3 so double check this - the length knob is usually a knob on the right side near the flywheel.

Hopefully, the above solves the problem for you but if not, please message again.

The thread keeps breaking while free motion quilting. It is a janome 1600p about 15 months old.It has been doing this for about a year and I have brought it into service at least 4 times for this...

Tough one! Did the machine ever work when it left the shop? if the shop said its working and its been in 4 times there could be a communication issue. I use schmetz brand quilting needles and have found some threaedds are so poor quality they cause this problem. Try a BEST quality thread, size 40 or 50....no bigger to start. Some folks buy big cones of thread and by the time they are used up the thread is brittle and weak. Work slowly...set the speed controller on the front of the machine at 1/2 to 2/3 speed and hold the pedal down to get a even speed. Dont move the fabric to fast, a slow smooth movement is whats needed. Practice on the same fabric and backing as you are trying to sew on. Bring it back to the dealer and ask them to try it. then you will have a better idea of whats what.

What needle do I use with the Janome 1600P which I am using with the Super Quilter frame? I've had three different suggestions from 3 different quilting shops. Please help me. Leslie

The needle HLX5 is proper for the 1600P, if it is a 1600 PDB the the DB x K5Q1is the correct needle. Normally a size 14 or 16 is good for quilting.

Yes. Loosen the tension a bit and then test on like fabric until you get a satisfactory stitch.

Feed Dogs on Janome 1600P

I recently purchased a Janome 1600P-DB and in order to do free motion quilting I had to cover the feed dogs with an index card. I also cut a small section out of the card to allow for the thread and needle to move freely. Standard tape was used.
