Oven pilot light will not stay lit on Garland 6 burner, double stove, salamander commercial in home

Our Commercial (in-home) Garland stove is at least 50 yrs old. We love it but the oven pilot lights are giving us SO MUCH trouble. Once lit they go out mid-cooking and then won't re-light until, it seems, the oven cools off. I suspect that they need a good cleaning. How do I do that? I do not have a manual. HELP...I have Christmas Eve dinner here for 20 people!

Oven pilot will not stay lit

Strange to hear about a pilot-flame. Is it an old oven? Commercial unit? Look for a small valve at the end of the pilot gas-line and see if it is shut off. If it's on, okay. But, is gas getting there being blocked elsewhere? There may be a flame safety-switch, a sensor by the pilot, or some other thing that has a release button for lighting the pilot. You hold it in until the sensor heats up, and then it will stay lit. After that, there may be a re-set button to get gas to the main burner element. Basically, you have to trace lines back until you find the hindrance. CAUTION:With all gas appliances, you have severe danger of causing an explosion, and untimely death, or injury, so if you have any doubts, get a qualified guy on it! (It takes a while to grow a beard back, too.)

Oven not working. gas on stove top is working. not sure if gas is not getting to oven or if there is another problem causing the oven not to heat up.

Check the pilot light assembly.Make sure the pilot is lit.If it looks good the thermocouple may be bad. If the pilot is lit,I would call for the repairman.

Pilot relighting Garland Commercial range

The main burner valve is the oven valve. The pilot will be next to the burner and you either have to insert a long shiskabob stick ( lit) into the hole or lift up on the bottom of the oven (inside) and you will see the pilot.

Don't know how to light the pilot light in the oven.It is a Garland ten burner two ovens. It is about 11 years old. Where is the pilot light and how do I light it.

Most commercial ovens have a manually lit pilot. There will be a button somewhere on the range that you will need to push in so gas will come out of the pilot assembly. While holding this button you will the light the pilot and will need to hold the button in for about a minute or two until the pilot stays on after you release the button. Look around the bottom panel, top panel or side panels(you may need to remove one) to find the button. they are usually red and may not look like a button. If you find the button and the pilot does not stay lit then the thermocouple might be bad. If you push the button and do not get any gas coming out of the pilot then there might be debris in the pilot assembly causing the gas not to come out. In that case you could try and tap the assembly or blow with compressed air to clear it. But in most cases you will need to remove the pilot assembly and use a really fine wire(like a metal tie-strap minus the coating) to clear the pilot orfice.

I have a Garland stove series #G286, the oven won't stay lit.

it sounds like a venting problem, the oven heats up and it not venting,it will put the pilot out.

Ovens won't work.. pilot safeties keep dying..

Hi, just wanted to ask, are you sure the safety valves are bad? seems strange that 2 would go bad like that. I have seen thermocouples ( $7 to $12 ) improperly installed, routed, not an OEM part, dirty pilots, affect them alot more often than a bad safety ($150 to $250). There is no baffle plate behind the safety, however, if mounted properly, it should be well out of any heat range that would be causing any problems. Are you sure it isn't "front venting" ? meaning the exhaust, or part of it, has to escape out of the front of the unit, causing it to overheat? this can be caused by a few things, something blocking, covering,in the flue. Your gas pressure too high, or no regulator at all, sooting, clogged orfice causing gas to burn in the burner, alignment of orfice to burner, etc.. Hope all that helps, let us know :)

Pilot light to oven went out

It could be that the safety ($150 to $250) is getting old, or grease filled. It could also mean the thermocouple ($7 to $12) is going bad, or has a bad connection. If the copper jacket of the thermocouple is blackened near the pilot, broken or cracked in anyway, it may not be working properly, as it generates a small voltage when heated, less than100th of an AAA battery, to keep your pilot lit. If the pilot orfice is clogged with dust it produces a smaller, less hot flame, which also lowers the output of the thermocouple. If I was performing the service, you would automatically get a pilot cleaning, and a thermocouple, the safety could still be bad, and confirming this is a 50/50 chance to begin with, but it is a cheaper start. Good luck, ask more if you need too, thank you, an Happy New Year.

Garland stove oven pilot light does not stay lit

If there is any adjustment, it would be a small screw on the oven control accessible with the oven control knob removed. This adjustment affects the size of the top burner pilots, but I'm not sure about the oven. The oven pilot orifice may have an obstruction, or if the flame is actually normal size where it covers the thermocouple when it burns, you may have a thermocouple problem.

Pilot wont light.

Firstly make sure the gas knob is exactly in the pilot mode some are finiky and won't light unless in exactly the right postion. Make sure once lit when pushing down on the pilot knob that you hold it down long enough for the thermocouple to sense the pilot. Barring both of those the most likley culprit is the thermocouple itself is faulty and can easily be removed usally with a couple of screws and a small adjustable wrench.
