Question about Palm TX Handheld

Palm TX handheld turns automatically on and off.

The Palm TX handheld turns automatically on and off. A hard or soft reset does not work. This on and off does not allow access to the main screen. I let the on and off go until the battery was drained and tried again. The only thing that happens is my orginal problem.

I have same problem. Palm support suggested press the reset button twice in succession - but it did not help!

The Palm TX can turn get turned on by accident when your carrying it around if you don't have keylock turned on and it will shut off automatically after 30 seconds to 3 minutes of not using it depending on what setting you have it set on

If you tried a hard reset, and it is still happening... then it may be a hardware problem. Is it still under warranty? You may want to exchange it for a new unit.

Need instructions on a hard reset

On your handheld, launch the Prefs application. Under General, select Security.

If the Password box says "Unassigned," tap the box and create a password for your handheld.

Once the password has been set, remove the stylus. Disconnect your handheld from the AC charger, if connected.

On your handheld, hold down the Power button.

While holding down the Power button, use the stylus to press the RESET button on the back of your handheld.

  1. While still holding the Power button, the screen will show the Palm logo and a progress bar. Then the circular Palm Powered logo will appear. Release the power button when you see the Palm Powered logo.

  2. A message will appear warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your smartphone. Press UP.
  3. You'll see a series of Palm logo screens, then a prompt to tap onscreen targets. The Factory Reset is complete

When trying to sync, error message reads (sys 0505)(0,841).What can I do? For Palm TX handheld

Hi,
Try to perform a System Reset (see article linked below). If it works to break the loop, you should then be able to delete the offending "My Palm" software and perform a Hotsync to backup your data to your desktop.

If that doesn't break the loop, you'll have to perform another Hard Reset. Sometimes, a Hard Reset takes a couple of tries to get it right, since it's easier to do it wrong than to do it right.

This article discusses the various types of Reset for different Palm devices:

http://tinyurl.com/zlwza

Until you break the TX out of its loop, you won't be able to get the data from it.

To see the Palm OS version running on your TX, enter the Menu, select Info, then Version.

To Get Out Of A Loop:
  1. Perform a SYSTEM RESET by doing the following:
a) Press the UP Button
b) And THEN press and release the RESET Button
c) When you see the second Logo (Palm Powered) release the UP Button
d) Now check if your SYSTEM RESET worked by going to Beam Receive. If it goes back to Off even after you put it to On it means you were successful

2. Now Perform A SOFT RESET by pressing and releasing the button in the back once

  1. After a soft reset, a logo screen appears, followed shortly by a Preferences screen asking you to set time and date.

  1. If a soft reset does not break it out of the loop, you may need to try one of the other resets below.

  1. Do an INCOMPLETE HARD RESET by holding down the power (on/off) button on your device.

  1. While holding down the power button, Press and release the reset button on the back of your handheld device

  1. Keep the power button pressed and release it when the “Palm Powered” logo appears.

  1. A message will now appear warning that you are about to “Erase All Data”. And this will happen if you press UP or DOWN.

  1. Instead you press left or right to begin a soft reset, leaving your data intact.

  1. Your device will then take you through a series of screens to calibrate the digitizer and verify the time and date.
Sorry this was so long, I tried to put everything down that might help you.

After a soft reset, my Palm TX becomes stuck on the "Palm Powered" screen. I have tried all of the resets, including the hard reset. The PDA does not respond to any of the resets. I can not turn the PDA...

You need to perform full reset which will erase all personal data and set everything to factory default. You need to press reset and power button to perform full reset. It will give you confirmation once you choose yes it will perform hard reset If issue persist you may disconnect and reconnect to internal battery

BOTTOM OF SCREEN NOT WORKING,

This happens a lot with Palm digitizers. The only permanent solution is replace the plastic digitizer with an upgraded glass type. Before considering that, see if removing screen protector helps. (yeah, didn't think so. Worth a try!) Try Powerdigi, a better calibration program. Get it from http://www.palmpowerups.com
It worked for me.

My Palm TX is crashing with increasing frequency. Sometimes one push of the reset button will get it back, but mroe often it requires several pokes with waits in between. It crashes when I 1) start it up...

I would check for Application compatibility.
there might be a conflict issue with your Palm TX and some software in it. there is a site for you to check for compatibility to see if there is a risk or if they are "Approved" for use in the Palm TX

http://www.palmfocus.com/txsoftware.php

I hope this helps you out in figuring out whats going on with it.

I just received a used palm tx. I am trying to connect to internet. Screen is titled Scan for Wi-Fi networks ...Would you like to turn the radio on now? I tap "yes" unit seems to turn off or maybe tries...

Do a hard reset, since you probably have someone elses data on it. This will clear it and set everything back to default.

Soft Reset

A soft reset tells your handheld to stop what it's doing and start over again. All records and entries stored in your handheld are retained with a soft reset. After a soft reset, the Welcome screen appears, followed by the General Preferences screen.

Use the reset tip tool (see below), or the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or similar object without a sharp tip), to gently press the reset button inside the hole on the back panel of your handheld.

Reset Tip Tool: On most PalmOS handhelds, the stylus that comes with your handheld has a reset tip inside. To use it, unscrew the barrel from the stylus quill.

Hard Reset
To perform a hard reset:
  1. Hold down the power button on the top of the handheld.
  2. While holding down the power button, use the reset tip tool (or similar object without a sharp tip), to gently press the reset button inside the hole on the back panel of your handheld.
  3. Release the reset button.
  4. When the logo screen appears on the screen, release the power button.
  5. When the message appears on the handheld screen warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your handheld, press the upper half of the scroll button on the front panel of the handheld to complete the hard reset and display the Digitizer screen.
If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Palm TX: Digitizer problems - can't use all functions; i.e.all those on bottom row of screen. Soft reset and touch-screen alinement exercise doesn't seem to work.

I developed the same problem after owning my TX for about a year and a half. I found an acceptable solution by experimenting with the digitizer. Instead of tapping the very center of the bullseye, I tapped off center until I found an acceptable setting where accessing functions anywhere on the screen would work for me.

The palm powered icon

To do a hard reset, hold down the power button, press the little reset button, release it, then release the power button.

Make sure you back up your TX first.
