I'd suggest you go to:
http://www.astra32.com/download.htm
and downloading their program if you don't know what sound hardware your machine is running.
I'm not suggesting tbirds' idea of radarsync is WRONG, it's just that in order to actually use the program to obtain the necessary drivers you have to register it...at 29.99. Astras' free edition has one drawback, it won't let you print the inventory it comes up with. You have to actually take notes, then go get your drivers.
A passing thought: If you let an online program scan your system to see what hardware it has, you'd think it would also be able to ascertain what OS you were using, don't you think?

Hello there:
If you know the manufacture of the sound cord you can go to the website and download it from their>
If this is not working than i suggest downloading radarsync free edition
this is a free utility that scans your system and will help you update all of your outdated drivers and get the drivers that you don't have once the scan starts just press the free section and let it scan.
Once it is done just look for the driver fro the device that you are needing that you are needing and select downloads this will show the current or new driver version that is needed
now just select history and you will see a list of the operating systems with the current version for the driver just select your operation system and click on it and it will ask you if you want a restore point than select next and itwill do the rest ok? pretty easy
best regards michael

Sound driver for my intel mboard D946DZAB

1. Visit the Intel site at www.intel.com from there you should be able to download the driver for your soundcard
2. If not your driver may be archived and you will have to contact tech support or customer support to have them send you the installation disk.
3. Another solution is to purchase another soundcard and install it with new drivers for the new soundcard.
Most computers will disable the on board soundcard and direct sound to the new soundcard

My speakers are connected to the computer but wont work

Check to make sure that your drivers are installed to your computer.

  1. Access the drivers for your soundcard. These will be included with the soundcard on the installation CD-ROM. If the CD is no longer available, visit the soundcard manufacturer's website to download the correct drivers. Ensure that you select drivers specifically made for your model of soundcard and that the drivers are specific to the operating system. The download site will list the driver details. If the soundcard came pre-installed on the computer, drivers can also be obtained from the manufacturer's site.
  2. Begin the process of installation. If installing from a CD, insert the CD and follow the installation prompts. If installing from a downloaded program, extract the files to a temporary location on your hard drive. Run the Start, Install or .exe file associated with the driver to begin the installation.
  3. Click "Next" to start the installation. You may have to accept a terms-of-use agreement to install the drivers. Once the wizard has finished, it will display a message saying that installation is complete. If the wizard doesn't restart the computer automatically, reboot it yourself to ensure that the soundcard is configured properly.
