Try changing your wireless channel, you might be getting interference from other electronics. You can change the channel in the router's web browser interface. This link should open it up for you, just need to input right user/password.

You may be trying to connect through a G or B device to your N router. Verify that there are no serious obstructions or that the pc is not underneath something or enclosed. Metal near the pc can cause the signal to lose strength. Not having a wireless N card or adapter can also cause this.

Also if you are trying to connect through ethernet cable verify that windows is being assigned an automatic ip address, if it is static in windows change it to automatic.

I'm trying to connect the ecb3500 as an AP Router to get wireless access from my cable modem. THe old LinkSys worked fine, although it has low power, but the ecb is unable to connect (status of connection...

ECB3500 Can I downgrade firmware safely with this product?Yes. I cannot get into the device from my computer. What is the basic setting check?

- Make sure you are directly connected to the unit.
- Do not have a switch or router in between and do not connect wirelessly.
- Make sure your power injector/adapter is on, power is going to the unit, and the "network" side is going to your computer.
- Make sure your computer is set to a static IP address of 192.168.1.10.
- Type in 192.168.1.1 using Internet Explorer.

How to change the IP Address?

The default IP address is 192.168.1.1. This IP address is typically in conflict with many routers out in the market. You will need to change the IP address manually to an IP address that is different but part of the same network. This means if your router IP address is 192.168.1.1, you should change the device to 192.168.1.2, for example. We recommend you change the IP address before other settings. You change your IP address in the "LAN" section in the GUI.

How do I reset the device?

Locate the reset button next to the CAT5 (RJ45) connection. Press and hold the reset button for 10 seconds and then let go. You should see your 10/100 LAN connection at your computer go away and then come back. That will confirm a reset has occurred. The unit settings should all be back to default including its IP address of 192.168.1.1.

How do I set up AP WDS Repeater?

How do I set up the device under Apple MAC OS X environment?

I cannot connect or maintain a log in to the device.

We recommend using internet explorer with at least IE7 or higher. Make sure you have latest version of Java script.

What distance in kilometers (km) should I set the device to?

Default is 1km. If you are setting up long distance point to point links, the time it takes the radio wave to get there needs to be considered for proper handshaking (ACK response). This window should be accurate within 5 kilometers. In other words if you have a 5 kilometer link, ideally you should set it to 5km, but a setting of 1km to 10km should keep you in an acceptable window. For short distances, keep this to 1km.

What is a point-to-point link setup? One unit would need to be in AP mode while the other in CB mode. The AP should be connected directly to the routers LAN port, and the other will be in Client Bridge Mode linking back to the AP. The Client side will then provide a WIRED connection for users of the remote location. You can choose to connect this wired connection to just one PC, or to a switch, hub, or another wireless access point for multiple users at the remote location. What is a Client Bridge (CB) Mode?

A client connects to an access point. Your laptop is a client. A bridge is something that connects two "wired" networks together. A client bridge therefore is a radio that wirelessly bridges two networks. The Ethernet port of the 2610 in CB mode provides the wired connection to the remote location. This Ethernet port can directly connect to a single PC, a hub, a switch, or another router.

What is considered a "good" signal? The signal meter is not available in AP mode. In CB mode, under connection status, a signal of -74dbm or better is a good signal. It's important to understand which direction numerically is a better signal. Dbm's are referenced to 1 milliwatt. 1mW = 0dbm. A stronger signal would be a positive number and a weak signal would be a very negative number. For example, a -50dbm signal is stronger signal than -92dbm. What is spanning tree protocol?

When there are several possible paths a packet can route to (redundant links for increased reliability for example), a loop can occur (jamming up the network). It is used to prevent these loops.

What is the default gateway? The default gateway is your router's IP address. The default gateway information is not required, but is recommended. What is the default user name and password to log into this device?

Log in name is "admin" and password is "admin" by default.

What is WDS Mode?Stands for Wireless Distribution System. Allows access points to link together and provide repeating. Note however, this repeating comes at a cost of reduced bandwidth. Bandwidth will be reduced by 30-40%, and it is recommended that NO multiple repeating hops be done for this reason. Which antenna connector is the primary antenna? The one closer to the power jack.

Does the Symbol AP 3021 Access Point accept WPA encryption?

on the info i could find it only supports WEP.
but if your issue is to be more secure look up if it supports a sort of mac filter.
this will only keep everybody out of your router but your signal will only be WEP encrypted.

WAP54G's as repeaters

Are you trying to setup both access point to repeat the signal of the router?
The correct way to setup the AP's as repeater is to access the setup page of your router go to status and go to the wireless subtab, check what is the MAC address that is what your suppose to configure on the AP's not the LAN MAC address which is on the local networks subtab on status.
Access the setup page of the AP's and go to AP Mode, make sure that you choose the repeater and copy down the Wireless MAC address you obtained from the wireless router. To enable roaming, meaning your wireless computer/device will connect to the AP/router closest to its location, change the wireless channel on all three device for example WRT54G will be on channel 1, 1st AP as repeater on Channel 6 and the last AP to Channel 11 but the other settings must be the same(Wireless name(SSID) and Wireless Security).

Note: Setting up an AP as repeater to repeat or extend the signal of another AP that is set to repeater is not recommended since the signal will deteriorate due to the number of hops the packets will be sent.

Hope this will help you setting up those WAP's which for me is quite useful since you can set it up to act as a repeater, AP client and a bridge to a WRT54G router.

Got wireless signal but no internet connection

You can try to power cycle your entire network (refresh).
This often happens when you have a large network.
  1. power down ALL Computers and disconnect the desktop from the D-Link Switch.
  2. turn off all SLAVE AP's first.
  3. Turn off the Master AP and disconnect one end of the Ethernet.
  4. Turn off the D-Link Switch and disconnect one end of the Ethernet.
  5. Now, turn off your modem.
Leave them for about 10 to 15 minutes, depending on your urgency.
Turn on and connect all devices in the EXACT order.
  1. Turn on the modem. wait 2 minutes.
  2. Turn on the D-Link Switch and wait 1 minute. Then connect the Ethernet to the MODEM.
  3. Turn on the Master AP and wait 1 minute. Then connect the Ethernet to the D-Link Switch.
  4. Turn ONE of the Slave AP's. Turn on your Laptop. try to connect to the Internet. If successful, Disconnect from the network on the computer and proceed to turn on the rest of the Slave AP's, Laptops, and Desktop. If its NOT successful, power on the Desktop and try to connect to the internet.
  • If the desktop connects to the Internet, Check your D-Link's homepage "192.168.1.1" (default) for any wrong settings. If it does not connect, check your DSL Modem's settings.
If the above does not work, post what you did the day before this happened. Probably something small might have messed with the network.

External Antenna

First, try changing the channel your access point (AP) is using. Maybe there is some interference with another AP or with an electronic appliance such as a wireless phone. Try all available channel. While changing your channel number, make sure that the wi-fi power of your access point is set to the maximum available (100%).

Second, make sure that there is as less metal as possible around the AP, for example if the AP is sitting in a metal book case or on a metal shelf.

Third, some appartment buildings, expecially old ones, have very thick walls made of concrete or brick. This is a nightmare for wi-fi. Try bringing the AP to a more central point in your appartment, if possible (I know this may be complicated).

I am "locked out" and can;t add a Dell laptop.

Hi, The default IP for most D-Link routers is 192.168.0.1. Even if you're locked out, doing a hard reset to the D-Link AP/Router will put it back to default (but of course that would delete all settings including your security codes (which I presume you're referring to the WEP or WPA and/or MAC address filter)). This would grant you full access using the web configuration utility. Follow the instructions of your manual which is also available from the D-Link website or post again if you need specific step by step instruction. Some probable reasons you can not perform the above is if: 1. Your ISP has given you a very specific configuration and/or static IP add & you do not have the details; and/or 2. The AP/Router is physically not accessible to you; 3. There are other clients connected to the AP/Router that you can not re-configure if you do a reset; 4. You do not have administrator privileges to modify the AP/Router's configuration. Post back also with info on: How many wired or wireless clients connected to the AP/Router and what is their typical IP settings; Try to get your ISP/WAN settings; and availability of manual. Good luck and kind regards.
