Because I think I just did that and it should say deleting not formating! Grrrr
It's no problem at all to get your photos back. They're still there. The card memory has just been reallocated to allow overwriting. So, no more pictures just yet, and please see this post for several free software that you can download to get those photos back:

Recommend using a card reader with this program. Here's a very inexpensive one that works great:

Yes, when you format a memory card, it erases all its data. Nowadays many companies/manuals don't bother mentioning that, unfortunately :(

Thank you... I downloaded the program but it says that no device is detected..but my camera is plugged in to the comp..
LCD screen shows no image in record mode
turn on and nothing on screen and pictures are blank
