It's no problem at all to get your photos back. They're still there. The card memory has just been reallocated to allow overwriting. So, no more pictures just yet, and please see this post for several free software that you can download to get those photos back:

Yes, when you format a memory card, it erases all its data. Nowadays many companies/manuals don't bother mentioning that, unfortunately :(

Camera says out of memory won't let me take pictures. i cleared all the pictures out and still cant take pictures. What do you think the problem is?

I'm assuming you are trying to use an SD card in your camera and not the internal memory. I suggest you format the memory card if you are sure there is nothing on the card. Formatting the memory card deletes everything on the card and sets it up with a file system that your camera recognizes. Follow these steps to format your memory card using your camera. 1. Turn camera off 2. Insert memory card 3. Turn camera on 4. When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the [Format card] option appears in the setup menu 5. Choose Format to format the entire card. Don't choose Quick Format 6. Wait until your card is formatted
After formatting your memory card, try turning your camera off and on and you should now be able to take pictures to your memory card.
P.S. If you remove your memory card you can choose Format Memory from the setup menu to format the camera's built-in internal memory

I know how to delete single picture but how does one delete complete file(numerous pictures, videos etc.?

If you mean to wipe out everything that's on the memory card, I just format the memory card.

Make sure to do it in the camera, rather than a card reader.

Memory card requires formatting, press continue then it states that it will delete everything on memory card, then it does not format, it tells you that you need to format memory card. press cancel and...

Hope you have this figure out if not here goes. Sounds as if the camera is caught in a feed back loop. As long as you have down loaded and saved your images on the computer go ahead and format the card. When it says delete everything on the card select OK and click the start button everyone is happy again. By the way all new card and card after doenloading to the computer should be formatted in the camera. Never format in the computer and deleting images one by one is just a great way to totally mess up a memory card's mind. Format, Format

Can i format an old playstation 2 memory card

I think you have to manually delete everything off of the memory card, There isn't a format option on a PS2. I havent got my adapter for my PS3 yet to see if I can format the memory card on the PS3.

Lost pictures

When a solid state disk as a memory card is formatted using the camera menu option, or perforing a Fast Formatting with a computer, the File system on media is deleted and overwritten.

If a complete format is done using a computer, the clusters containing data are erased before formatting. In that case there is no way to recover the data files.

Often there is no way to recover data from a formatted Disk or Memory card.

Try following the instructions on website below:

recover data from formatted Hard Drive?

But why

I'm afraid "Formatting memory cards" or hard drives etc means returning them to factory conditions, therefore deleting everything.
