We have a 2 wire gateway through sbcglobal.net. the past week it has really been acting up.it contineously resets itself and our internet connection.so much so that i cant even stay logged into yahoo...

A couple of troubleshooting things you can do yourself:

  • Reset all networking equipment. This includes any routers, modems, computers, and laptops connected. For the routers & modems simply unplug them for 30 seconds and plug them back in. For the computers, do a restart.

  • Update all of your computers with the latest Windows Updates. For Windows XP, goto http://www.windowsupdate.microsoft.com . For Windows Vista, goto "All Programs" >> "Windows Update"
If you are still experiencing trouble, your best bet is to contact your ISP and let them troubleshoot the issue. The reason for this is they can tell if the issue is internally (on your end) or externally (on there end).

Cant conect to internet using wirles with Windows Vista

Hi,

This method will hard reset the wireless drivers back to default settings, but before you perform this remove power from the modem and router for 2 minutes reconnect power and wait another 2 minutes for them to settle down.

Right click "computer" select "manage" and then "device manager", a list will populate, then click on the + sign next to "network adapters" and right click on the wireless adapter and "uninstall" the device, reboot the PC and wait for windows to detect the wireless card and install the drivers for it, this will appear in the system tray (bottom right hand side) when its done try to connect again.

Good luck.

Windows vista laptop lost connection to the internet

Start off simple. Try a different port on the router. If that doesn't work, try a new cable. If that doesn't work, go to the Device Manager in Windows. (Right-click My Computer, select Manage, go to Device Manager). Does the card look okay? Has it been disabled or need a driver update? If we're still looking at issues then I would take a look at your router security. How many DHCP licences do you allowed to be assigned? Also do you have security in place (WEP/WPA, Mac Filtering, SSID Broadcast)? If you are light on security and only have a few assignable DHCP licences, you may have neighbors leeching your internet access.

To clarify: DHCP assigns a network IP address to each device on its network. Most Linkys routers have a default of 10, you may have reduced this yourself. If you have, you've limited the # of devices allowed on the network. So if you have 3 DHCP licenses available, and a couple neighbors are leeching, your Dell may not get assigned an ip.

If you still need further help, let me know.

Perhaps your gateway has changed? Look in your network connections, or perhaps a proxy has been entered into the browser?

Hi ive tried to update the firmware on my dlink router and it stopped half way through and now i cant connect to it

If you are running Windows Home or Pro...I suggest doing a system restore to the day prior to the upload.
Your router should be back up and working..

Always make sure that the "update" you are doing, is for your system. There are updates out there now that include Windows Vista....downloading these instead of your version, maybe change your settings and render your peripherals useless..

Seems there are problems with Vista. Contact Belkin see if they offer support or firmware updates to work with Vista.
