Question about Dometic Rooftop RV Air Conditioner

Controls checkout... no compressor start. Freon??

Hi. Have a Dometic Model 600315.331- Have checked the caps (2), PTCR, overload, compressor windings for short/open and all check good. Fan runs on all switch settings but compressor does not even try to start when rotating thermostat control from low to high (no click). The thermostat ohm's out Okay. I'm guessing low freon. You mentioned replacing the 'upper unit' being cheaper then adding charge ports. Can I buy just the compressor unit, charged, and put it in the housing up top or do you mean replace the whole unit??

THE OUTSIDE FAN MOTOR MIGHT NOT BE WORKING CAUSING THE COMPRESSOR TO GET HOT AND TRIP THE INTERNAL OVERLOAD IN THE COMPRESSOR - IF THE UNIT IS LOW IN FREON SAME RESULTS - WHEN UNIT IS FIRST TURNED ON DOES IT BLOW COLD AIR OR DOES THE AIR NOR FEEL COOL - JUST COOL AIR COULD BE LOW FREON - COLD THEN WARMS UP IS FAN PROBLEM

HOw do you know if your compressor is going out on a maytag model#MFF2557hes

Sorry to read about your problem. you can have many different problems.
1. Bad temp control
2. Failing compressor
3. Defective start cap
4. Defective overload protector
5. Defective control board

But in your case, your freon maybe low

I suggest you call a service company. as they have the equipment to check for low freon.

I have tried to help you. Please help me, by Vote/Rate my response. Thanks.

If you live in the Denver area, I can help you.

Unit turns on,compressor runs, evap and cond clean, fan runs, will not blow cool

two things that may be the problem. 1. there may be a clog in the metering device in the unit preventing the freon from ciculating through the unit. The repair for this is to evacuate the freon from the unit and have the meter ing valve replaced (an a/c tech can do this for a minimal charge). 2. the unit is low enough on freon to prevent cooling but not cause the compressor to go into thermal overload.
I would have the freon level checked before I went any further

Good luck hope this helped

Dometic Quick Cool Duo Therm Model 59516.601 runs but does not cool. Does it need to be recharged?

Hi; How old is the unit. Sometimes the condensing coils get clogged and need to be cleaned. Or the compressor is not in operation due to an electrical problem or the compressor is out due to a safety feature called a thermal overload. This protects the compressor from failure to a high heat or pressure situation. Alot of consumers run to the need freon theory before checking a few other things. Take Your time and be carefull .I You do not feel confident in Your trobbleshooting skills call a qualified tech...alpharome416...P.S. If You are going to take on this complex task please remove power before doing anything like removing covers or electrical panels!!!

Dometic has had a bad run of pc cards the've been changing. Contact a dometic dealer and make an issue over the curcuit board and once hey get it lit, They can tell more about the refrigerant charge. Good Luck, Ned

Compressor doesnt come on in a dometic duotherm rooftop ac unit.Fan runs but no compressor

If this is a wall thermostat controlled unit, then check to make sure that you have power coming from the yellow wire on the thermostat when it is placed in the Cool/Auto High mode. If you do not have power at the yellow wire, then you have a bad thermostat. If you do have power, then remove the control unit from the inside of the AC and see if you have power at the Y terminal there. If so, when you turn the thermostat to cool, can you hear a relay clicking in the box? If not, then you have a bad control box. If the relay is clicking, you need to check the power at the compressor relay on the board. It has a black wire to one side and a purple (or blue) wire on the outgoing side. Check to see if you have 120V on the blue wire when the tstat is set to High/Cool. If not, then you need to bypass the freeze switch to make sure that is not the problem. If you do, then you need to go upstairs and check the start capacitor for OK. It is located in the side compartment of the upper unit, it has a small black relay on the top called a PTCR. These often burn out and will cause the compressor not to work. If that is fine, then you go to the top of the compressor to the thermal overload switch. See if you have power at both sides, if so, then you have a bad compressor. If not, then the overload switch is open and not allowing power to the compressor.
