Question about Westinghouse L1975NW Monitor

Broken LCD Backlight

I have a westinghouse 19" widescreen LCD monitor. It turns on and with a lot of light on it the picture is thee but otherwise looks black. It appears to be a problem with the backlight. It has 4 ccfl lamps and none of them even flicker which makes me thing it is a problem with the inverter and not a dead bulb. But the inverter is integrated so replacing it is not easy. I also noticed that a couple of the capxon 220uf 25v capacitors may be bulged, but if they are it's not by much and I am unsure if that is the problem. I'm at a loss of what to do next and would like to try to repair the monitor for under $50. Any suggestions?

Dtoreilly, You will need to check all the Electrolytic Capacitors. Here is what I found. I measured some units on a Stanford Research Systems SR720 LCR meter. Units are CAPXON #1 2200uf @ 16v now 119uf
#2 2200uf @ 10v now 48.8uf
#3 2200uf @ 10v now 10.8uf
#4 2200uf @ 10v now 136uf
#5 2200uf @ 10v now 29uf
Yes their tops were only minimly bulging also. So I guess it really dosen't matter very much if they are only swollen a little bit!!!! I'll let you interpret the DATA I have presented here. I know one thing though-- If I were mass-producing anything that needed low voltage filter capacitors on the printed circuit board--- They certainly wouldn't be made by CAPXON!! Bye for now I'm louie12fix on fixya or lmistyrel @aol.com

SOURCE: I have a westinghouse 19 with a broken backlight

if its like my 20v5 then it might be a power supply problem with bulging caps.

the link below shows the part numbers how to replace all the caps for my 20v5 model. look at that and sillybits entry how to take it apart. your monitor should be similar but i would talk apart first to verify the same caps exist in your unit.

Hi!! I have a Westinghouse L1916HW 19" DVI LCD 2ms

One possibility is that it may have dying power supply which may be putting out unstable DC which can cause a lot of strange symptoms.
See pictures here: http://s807.photobucket.com/albums/yy352/budm/Westinghouse%20L1916HW/?action=view&current=DSC00244.jpg

Bad caps are real common problems in all brands of the monitors as you can see in my albums.
Westinghouse monitors are cheaply made to start with.

I have model 1975NW. When power is turned on, green light appears, then orange light. No picture is present.

The ORANGE light indicates "power-saving" mode -- when no "output" from a video-card is being detected, the screen will dim itself. Try a different monitor. Try a different video-card in your computer. Try your monitor on a different computer.

Hi, I have a V7 L19WA - 19" widescreen monitor.

The fact that you can see a faint picture indicates that the monitor is working but the backlight circuit has a problem. The typical failures are blown transistors or bad capacitors. This can be troubleshot if you know how to unsolder and check the components with a meter. Don't know how technical you are, but if you are not, you could take to to an electronic repair service to fix. Hope this helps you.

The monitor will not come on. The indicator light just stays on red. We will unplug it and plug it back in, the power indicator light will flash to green then return to red.

You will more likely to have bad caps in the power supply which when they failed, will take out the fuse and MOSFET in the backlight inverter curcuits also. See example of failed monitors here: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums

Monitor goes dark... can still see the screen faintly, have to turn the monitor on and off to get the picture to " stick"..

ok, we have two options here, either the power inverter that turns on the backlight has stoped working or the backlight itself is not working. in these both situations, the best for you will be to ask to a local technician to replace it for you. but you may want to verify first if it's worth it to repair due to the low prices on lcd monitors nowadays.

When the computer comes on the monitor will not connect. The indicator light flickers an orange color. Sometime if I unplug the monitor cable it will come on.

your cable can be broken or your video board may be broken...first try with another cable, if this not solves the problem try with another monitor, and if still doesn't work that means your video board has a problem

I have a westinghouse 19 with a broken backlight

There is a chip in your monitor that is burnt out. To replace it would cost you about $150.00. To remove it is even harder as it is in the inside mount to your screen. If you are able to remove your front screen and put it on a board you can use your tester to find the chip. It would be cheaper to buy yourself another monitor. As the hours it will take to do this are intense. If you don't have the time to do this all in a day don't do it, as your memory will run into problems trying to accomplish this over a period of time. Try craigslist. Let me know if I can help with anything else. Thanks.

Power light is on but there is no picture on monitor.

Hello,
Very common problem with these LCD monitors. You have a blown power supply for the backlight circuit. If you are comfortable with elecronics repair/soldering I can walk you thru opening the unit and repairing it. If you don't want to do it yourself we have a repair option available for $35.00 plus return shipping.
