If your lens is an AF-S lens, then any of the DSLR's will work with it. If it's the older style auto focus, then the D40 and D40x won't work.

The reason is that the D40 and D60 don't have the motor and rotating screw mechanism that turns the autofocus in the older AF lenses.

The new AF-S lenses have a motor built in, and so they don't need the camera AF motor to focus for them.

Do the old AF lenses for the Nikon N60 SLR fit the new DSLR cameras

Hi ericm675, Yes they will. What you run into is were one uses a auto focus lens on a newer digital such as a D40. Some of the new digital cameras do not have the drive gear to turn the autofocus on the lens. Those newer cameras use electronics. Look on your camera lens mount at 7:00 you will see the drive pin. Look on your old autofocus lens you should see a slot where that pin fits. Hope this helps you.

I keep trying to attach the lens and it keeps saying "lens not attached" on the screen. What should I do?

1.the lens is not suitable for newer Nikon DSLR, e.g AI-Nikkor or PC
2.try to clean the mount part at the camera and at the lens with clean-dry cloth
3.probably there`s some malfuntions inside the camera, please refer to your Nikon retailer

Does the sigma 70-300mm fit nikon n4004?

Specification for that model here - http://www.freebase.com/view/en/nikon_f401 uses the Nikon F-mount
The sigma was sold with various lens mounts and so could be used on any camera - do you know what mount you have on the Sigma - do you also know if its Auto focus AF as the Camera needs AF.

I just bought a tamron di 2 AF 55-200mm f/4-5.6 LD macro for my nikon D40 and i can't get it to autofocus

That 2x is not AF-s compatible. It is the older Af style which the d40 does not support. Your camera store should have known this when they sold it to you, unless you bought it mailorder. Then see if they will let you return or exchange it.

WILL THIS MODEL JELL WELL WITH THE NIKON 50mm LENSES (NORMAL) & OTHER BRANDS OF 50mm LENSES (NORMAL) THAT IS WITH NIKON D90 DSLR

Hello,
The Nikon D90 works well with the Nikon AF 50mm lenses and most other brand Nikon fit AF lenses. If they are not AF you will lose autofocus and metering.
Do you know that on the D90 the lens becomes a 75mm but the aperture stays the same, so for instance the 50mm f/1.8 is a 75mm f/1.8.

Yes and yes. Bear in mind that not all features may work. You probably won't get autofocus or metering with the Nikon D90, for example.
