Question about Apex Digital HT-150 System

Open Question

My box stopped working after I unplugged it once

I unplugged my tv & converter box when we had a strong lightning storm, because I didn't want my equipment to get struck. A day later, after the weather was better, I plugged the tv & converter box in again. The green light on the Apex converter box is on, but only snow appears. I tried the different video displays, switching channels, turning tv/converter on/off, plugging/unplugging, etc. Nothing on the digital converter remote works except on and off. I can't get the menu, tv channels, etc. Just snow. Right now I should be watching the season 6 premier of my favorite show, Grey's Anatomy. I'm watching snow. So I'm writing angry comments on the Internet. I'm frustrated. There are angrier words in my head than I'm allowed to write. Grrrr.

How do i stop lightning from getting in my hdmi lines and shocking my tv? 5 tvs went down in one storm

I would recommend getting a surge protector and using that to protect your televisions. This usually will stop something the lightning from killing your tv's.. I have a surge protector and can still use my tv, computer, anything I have plugged in during a storm.

My sony lcd tv has no sound after lightning storm

You may have a damaged audio circuit in the set:

Look to see speakers are switched ON in audio or main menu.

If using a box unplug it and the set or anything between set and signal source for a while and plug back to see if helps.

Also to narrow things down a bit look to see if a DVD connected alone directly to a rear input on the set has sound.

As an electrician, when someone loses more than 1 item of electronics in a day, its almost
always traceable to a nearby lightning strike, accompanied by inadequate surge protection for
the VCR/TV/Computer/Stereo/uninsured valuable electronic item/XBOX 360. Surge protection can
be provided by the consumer at the power strip (a good one with builtin protection and a
warranty costs $20, whereas a zero-protection 4-outlet or 6-outlet power strip will cost $4-$5).
Your electrician can provide whole-house protection, or per-circuit protection at
the breaker box, where a GFCI breaker (or better, an AFCI breaker) can be installed.
GFCI = ground fault circuit interruptor
AFCI = Arc fault circuit interruptor
Lightning protection is especially important in Florida, which is the "lightning capital of the world."
I've never found a good solution to lightning-fried electronics (random power supply components are destroyed), other than renters insurance or homeowners insurance.
The converter box may be replaced by DirecTV, you'd have to contact their customer
service at http://www.directv.com/DTVAPP/content/customerservice
If desperate, you could try replacing the entire TV power supply as a module, but even this provides
no guarantee of a fix - lightning damage can extend beyond the power supply.
When traveling, I will always unplug everything before I leave (except the security system),
and also turn off the breakers to unneeded house circuits (which kills the wall switches that
control interior lighting - forcing a burglar to use their flashlight instead of interior lighting)
which is the least convenient lightning protection, but highly effective, and cheap (free).

Well I think that the console might of had been damaged by lightning thats why when theres a thunder storm you should always unplug your consoles so they won't get hit by lightning I always unplug mine when theres a thunder storm. Well the sound module inside of the console is broken then so you could send it into console solutions then they repair old systems too.

After a lightning storm, my TV will not turn on. Is there a fuse or something on the in coming power that may have blown causing it not to turn on?

Any TV subjected to a power surge will have problems. If you can remove the back cover, do so. Locate the glass fuse. In the best situations the fuse is clear and opened, and replacement will repair your TV. In worst cases the fuse may be blackened, and you will see that many components are burned and shattered. If this latter is true, only replacing the TV is your best bet. In many cases electronics may be connected to surge protectors, but lightning will over ride these devices and cause damage. I have seen this happen many times. Thanks for asking and show all hands of support!

Try power cycling the TV. First, unplug ALL cables from the TV, This may sound silly but there can be minute amounts of power coming from your other devices like the cable box or BluRay player and that small bit of power is sometimes enough to hold an electronic device in a particular state. Once they are unplugged, unplug your TV from the power source. Leave it out for a full 60-90 seconds.Reconnect your devices first, then reconnect the TV to its power source. If this does not work, there may have been damage done by way of a power surge.

It may be a problem with the DVRs. You can rule that out by connecting a different HDMI TV to one of the DVRs.
