Question about GE 97985 Mouse

1 Answer

After sitting idle for a while, the sensor in my GE mouse turns off and then it won't wake up. The buttons still work fine, but I have to turn the power button on and off many times before the red "laser" will come back on so it will work. The batteries are brand new. WTF? Any ideas?

I'm not sure with that mouse but some of the newer ones require you to click a combination of mouse buttons to turn it back on, usually this is configurable with the mouse's software.

Mouse idles, takes a full second to "wake up."

Hi. Normally gaming mouses can come with some software that will help fix that issue and make it more comfortable to use but as we all know this is not a gaming mouse. It sounds like the optical sensor ( bottom of the mouse) is either dirty or may just be bad. I have looked up the mouse and overall it has a lot of bad reviews. A lot say the mouse dies in 1 month. My best suggestion is to return it if you can and get a better one.

Some ideas - ( around your budget )

If your desktop goes to sleep when it is idle, then this is controlled by your power settings and you can change the time for how long the system can be idle before going to sleep....If pressing a key or moving the mouse does not wake the system again, then try just pressing once on the power button which should cause the system to wake and bring you back to a sign-on panel again. Note: do not press and hold the power key as this will force power off if held for more than 4 seconds normally on most systems.

I have a ge 98563 ergonomic wireless mini mouse and my laptop wont recognize it

I have had no problems with my compaq laptop and the mini mouse. It recognized it even after OS downgrade to XP. The reset buttons on the mouse and the transceiver need to be activated or reset when sitting idle for a while. Once you get them both "blinking" it works great. Good mouse for the price... Your laptop should recognize it. Just check the reset and make sure the lites are on and communicating.

Can't wake the computer

Probably there is no connection between your keyboard and mouse to the CPU. Check for proper connection of your keyboard and mouse. If the connection is good, probably there is the problem with the cord that is connected with your mouse or keyboard.
Turn off first your PC before making any connections.
After you confirmed that there is no problem with the connection, probably the problem is at your mouse or the keyboard itself.

Yes, this is a result of the wireless mouse. If that mouse moves a hair, it could cause your computer to wake up. I recommend you placing the mouse in a more sturdy location between uses, or simply turn off the transmitter/receiver that controls the wireless keyboard/mouse. Sometimes a better mouse pad is all you need to reduce glare or to provide a surface with more friction to better prevent small bumps from moving the mouse round.

Monitor Turns Black - Won't turn back on when moving mouse

It is probable that the ROM system, called BIOS (Basic Input/Output System), is set to not wake your computer by moving the mouse or pressing a key on the keyboard.

I do not know which BIOS your computer is running so I can only give a general answer.

When your machine is starting up, look for a message that says "Press F2 to enter BIOS" or something like that. Your machine may have a different F key assigned to enter BIOS.

There should be a setting in there that allows you to change the values for waking the monitor. It should say something like "Use keyboard and Mouse to wake up computer", it won't say those exact words, but something like that. If the value is set to disabled, then enable it. Then save your changes and exit (Usually by pressing F10)

Be careful when in BIOS. Changing settings you do not understand can make your computer behave erratically or stop functioning altogether.
