Question about Acer Aspire 4520-5582 Notebook

1 Answer

The power on my Acer notebook has drawn down to zero because it isn't getting recharged. I tried two different adapters, one brand new, but it isn't getting recharged. I suspect it's the place where the adapter connects. Any insight on cause or solution?

Have you considered that the battery may have collapsed and not be the fault of the charging unit?
Is the battery light on when connected to AC?

Hello.

The most common reasons for power issues are the battery, power jack and power adapter/cord.

Power off and remove the battery. If the laptop powers on with just the adapter connected, your battery is faulty.

If you move/wiggle the power adapter at the point where it connects to the laptop, and the power goes off and on, the power jack is the problem.

The power jack is inside the laptop and either needs soldering or replacement. If a power jack problem, it should be addressed by someone knowledgeable.

If no change, the power adapter is probably faulty and needs replacement.

Hope this helps.

I have an AspireOne netbook that has always worked till yesterday when it did not want to come on. It lights up for a couple of seconds and turns off. It did this last night ... but finally did come on...

Whenyou connect the power adapter into the laptop, does the power LED lightup? If not then - The battery adapter or the adapter's power lead or the laptop's powersocket could be faulty. Check power adapter's DCplug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltageshould be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on thebottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that isprinted on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced. If the adapter is OK thenconnect it to the laptop and power it up, then look at the power/batterycharging LED light and wriggle the power plug in the laptop's powersocket. If the power/battery LED light flashes and in a certain position thisLED light stays firm, then the power socket is either faulty or it has a drysolder joint where it is connected to the motherboard. This can be repaired but itrequires the laptop to be completely dismantled to get at this power socket andrepair. If you cannot DIY then I suggest you get a quote first.

Charging does not charge

If your Notebook computer battery is not charging, try the following:
  • Reset your computer's power manager. For information on how to do this with your specific model, search Apple Support.

    • Make sure your AC adapter is properly inserted into your laptop.

    • Connect your computer to its AC adapter, shut it down, and then let it charge overnight. If it does not charge, it's likely you have a hardware fault in your computer, battery, or adapter, and you should have it repaired.

    • Test your AC outlet. See if your battery will charge if you plug it into a different outlet, or see if another electrical device will work in your original outlet.

    • Test your AC adapter. Try connecting a different AC adapter to your computer and see if it recharges.

    • If it's removable, test your battery. Try using a different battery with your computer and see if it will recharge.

    • In some of the early PowerBooks, the battery will not charge unless the computer is turned on. If you have an old PowerBook and your battery isn't charging while it's turned off, power it on, put it to sleep, and then see if it recharges.
If you go through all of these steps and your battery still won't charge, or you can't narrow down the source of the problem, you will probably need to have your computer repaired. However, it may be worth your time to consult Apple Support first. It contains entries on problems with specific computer models and versions of the operating system, including battery recharge issues.

My acer aspire battery discharges and does not hold its charge when not connected to the mains

If the laptop battery is more than 3 - 4 years old then the battery could be worn out. Rechargeable batteries have a finite number of charge and discharge cycles and will lose their charge capacity over time, until they won't charge up at all. Then the battery needs to be replaced.
Check power adapter’s DC plug that connects into the laptop power socket with a multi-meter, the voltage should be slightly higher than the voltage that is printed on the label on the bottom of the adapter. If the voltage is zero or way below the voltage that is printed on the label then the power adapter is faulty and needs to be replaced.

You ordered the wrong battery, theres two types, your original would have been 11.1v if you check the new one it will be 14.8v. They are not compatable.

Son ran battery to zero after he broke power cord, now won't boot

Couple of things

First is to let it charge with the lid down for a few hours.
If that does not fix it then check that your son did not use the alternate display option FN F5 or FN F6 on the acers I think

If you still have no luck you might want to ask questions of your son before you take it to a repair shop

Acer Ferrari power problem.

what appears to be the problem on this system is power related. when the power adapter was being hit to temporarily come on it reflects a loose connection or component in the power adapter which eventually was let loose and cause a shot circuit which explains the smoke. This is likely to cause a circuit problem in the laptop. Take the battery out and try to power it again?
