Question about Kitchen Ranges

1 Answer

I own a Rf396pxyq0 whirlpool Electric range.I'm having trouble with the oven in the bake mode building up to the temperature set on the elect control pad.when turning on the bake mode the lower burner heats only moderately and never gets red hot like it should. The upper broiler burner does come on in the bake mode and appears to be okay because I tried the broil mode and it gets red hot pretty quickly. When you turn on the bake mode, you can hear it click on as it goes thru its cycle to raise the temp to get to 350 however it takes forever to get up to 350 and then a oven thermometer reads 280 degrees. The lower burner at this point does not get red hot like it should.I checked the lower burner continuity and it is okay and I replaced the temperature probe but still got the same results.Could you please tell me how to check continuity on the remaining items that may be causing the problem and the readings I should be getting Can you speculate what the defect might be. elec control panel circuit board, clock, wires from both burners, fuses or relays if any on this model ?

Electronic ovens with a digital display use a sensor to monitor oven temperature. To solve temperature problems for these models, you may need to replace the sensor. On some digital-display models, you can calibrate the temperature using the key pad. See your operator's manual for details.

CLICK HERE to see the "clock" assembly - It controls and regulates all functions of the oven. Since you have checked the elements and thermostat already - you're down to the last component....
However it is always my recommendation that if a repair is to cost more than 1/3 of a new one - to put the money toward a new appliance.
The new one will save money by being more efficient, and will have a 3-5 year warranty.

The controller board is not difficult to replace (a few screws and wire harnesses), but is pricy at $250 (white) or $185(black)

Thanks for using FixYa!!

The digital programming function is stored in EEPROM and not serviceable. Once the module is faulty - it must be replaced in whole.

The module in question is directly in the center of the board. Looks like a computer chip. It does all the calculating and relaying functions.

It is not seperately serviceable. You CAN swap it out - however FINDING the part is going to be impossible - unless taken from another non-working controller that doesnt have the same problem.

    Thanks

Oven shuts off while baking and will not restart till oven cools off??? thanks mark

Good Afternoon Mark,

I see that you're having trouble with your Frigidaire range, model# PLCS389DC, shutting off in mid-baking, and will not restart until the oven has cooled. It sounds like it is either the temperature sensor, that is sensing a runaway oven temperature, or the control board itself that might need replacing. I suggest contacting you local authorized technician for further assistance. They will be able to determine what exactly is causing your oven to cut off in mid-baking.

-Best Regards-

Frigidaire range model #fgfl67dcf needs to be calabrated, too hot for setting

OVEN CALIBRATION Set the electronic oven control for normal baking at 350°F. Obtain an average oven temperature after a minimum of 5 cycles. Press CANCEL or CLEAR to end bake mode. TEMPERATURE ADJUSTMENT 1. Set EOC to bake at 550°F. 2. Within 5 seconds of setting 550°F, press and hold the bake pad for approximately 15 seconds until a single beep is heard (longer may cause F11 shorted keypad alarm). 3. Calibration offset should appear in the display. 4. Use the slew keys to adjust the oven temperature up or down 35°F in 5°F increments. 5. Once the desired (-35° to 35°) offset has been applied, press CANCEL or CLEAR. Note: Changing calibration affects both Speed Bake and normal bake modes. The adjustments made will not change the self-cleaning temperature.
