The "SUDS" or "SUD" error can be caused by too much detergent, improper detergent, drain pump/drain line problem, or pressure switch malfunction.

1. If you are not using HE detergent, you need to be. These washers are designed to use HE detergent which is formulated for wash tubs that use 5 to 7 gallons of water. If you use regular detergent, you are, in affect, placing a higher concentration of detergent in the washer that is normally formulated for wash tubs that have a 35 gallon capacity. The manufacturer should have a disclaimer in the owner's manual explaining this. In most cases this will also void your warranty. NOTE: Prolonged use of the wrong detergent can damage the drain pump components and or wash tub seals.

If you are using the correct detergent, double check the label to make sure it is not double (2X) or triple (3X) concentrated. You could still be placing too much soap in your wash.

To get rid of excessive detergent, place the washer on a RINSE & SPIN cycle, then run it through a normal wash cycle with NO detergent added. You may have to repeat these steps depending on the amount of detergent used.

2. If you do not have a detergent issue, double check the drain pump and drain lines to ensure they are not obstructed in any way. Click on the following link for step-by-step instructions:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

Obstructions in the drain pump and/or drain lines can attribute to air getting trapped in the drain pump and cause the error code. Double check all electrical connections to the drain pump and Central Control Unit (CCU). You will need to remove the top panel of the washer to access the CCU. This is accomplished by removing the three screws in the back of the washer that hold the top panel in place. With the screws removed, slide the panel back, then off. The CCU is located directly behind the wash tub in the center of the washer. The Drain Pump connector will be the 6th connector (facing from the front L to R) in the center of the CCU.

3. Check the Pressure Switch to ensure it is good. The Pressure Switch is located to the right of the CCU as you are looking from the front. It is a small cylindrical shaped device with a connector plug and an air hose attached. The switch can be checked at several water levels by removing the plug and taking resistance readings at the connector pins. Readings are as follows:

(Pins are numbered R to L facing the from the REAR)

Pins 1 to 2 (SUDS Detect) – 0 ohms
Pins 3 to 4 (Overflow) – 0 ohms
Pins 4 to 5 (L1) – 0 ohms
Pins 4 to 6 (Empty) – 0 ohms

I have an older Whirlpool duet that reads sue code.It has water that has not drained fully with a odd sound towards the rear of machine possibly a short in board?

Is it SUE or SUD code?
Sud SUDS LOCK (Overdose of detergent detected during the wash cycle) The motor control unit senses a suds lock condition by analyzing the current draw on the drive motor. If "Sud" is displayed a potential suds lock is detected. This may signify a bad pump, an extra heavy load, excessive detergent, or excessive suds.

Potential Causes

• If too much detergent was used, run the unit through a Rinse/ Spin cycle then a Normal cycle without adding any detergent. This should clear the unit of the excess detergent.
• Check the drain hose and make sure it is not plugged or kinked
• Check Wire Harness connections to the Drain Pump, Pressure Switch, and Central Control Unit (CCU)
• Check / Clean Drain Pump Filter of foreign objects
• Check Drain Pump
• Check the Pressure Switch
• Check CCU

Where do I find the MCU on my Kenmore h2plus washer?

  • 1 Check for any error codes in the Estimated Time Remaining display. The code "F20" indicates a water inlet problem. Press the Stop button twice to end the cycle and check that the faucets are turned on fully. Take a look at the inlet hoses. Close the valves and unscrew them. Look for any clogging on the screen and clear it.

  • 2 "F21" indicates a draining problem. Again, press the Stop button twice and take a look at the drain hose. Make sure it's not kinked, frozen or clogged.
  • 3 "SD" on the display indicates the machine has gone into its Suds Routine. The Suds Routine removes excess suds so that the garments rinse properly. It's not a problem, but can be an indication you've used a non-high-efficiency powder. Just let the SD routine complete and the draining will continue.

  • 4 Make sure the washer is level if it gets noisy or vibrates too much. Use the leveling feet to adjust the level. They screw and unscrew for adjustment. Make sure the shipping bolts were removed from the back of the machine if the machine gets too noisy. See the "Removing Transport System" section in the instruction manual.
  • 5 Check that you are using HE detergent if you spot leaks. Check that the fill hoses are tight and that the drain hose is secured to the drain pipe. Check that the drain isn't clogged.
  • 6 Make sure the load is balanced if the washer won't drain or spin--or if water remains in the washer. Redistribute the load.
  • Buy Custom Car parts.

What does it mean if the washer is not draining and has a flashing f where the time shows?

I have the manual for this machine. Under "Code 21" it says the following:
"F21" (Drain Problem) Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Check the following: Is the drain hose kinked? Is the drain hose frozen? Is the drain hose clogged? Is the drain hose more than 96" (2.4 m) above the floor? Plug in washer or reconnect power. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
    For "SUDS" code, the following:
"SUD" (Suds Routine) When excessive suds are detected, a suds routine automatically starts. This routine removes extra suds and assures proper rinsing of your garments. "SUD" is displayed during rinsing to inform you that Suds Routine was activated. Use only HE (High Efficiency) detergents.
Here is some more information that may help you as well:
"F" Codes other than F20, F21 and F22 Select STOP twice to cancel the cycle. Select DRAIN & SPIN if there is excessive water in the washer. Re-select cycle and press START. If the problem remains, call for service.
I hope this is of some help to you, Please rate and comment, Thank You

It won't drain or sometimes it drains slow. The F2 code will appear or the Suds code will show up.

The drain filter is blocked and needs to be cleaned. Unplug the machine or disconnect power then remove the three screws attaching the bottom of the lower front access panel and pull the panel down and off. Once the panel is off, you'll find the drain filter attached to the drain pump.

    jahn27_460.jpg

Place a container or a piece of towel
underneath the filter to catch spillage. You may need to drain the water from the machine by putting the end of the drain hose over a container on the floor. Position the container as low as possible to extract as much water.

Remove the filter by turning the knob counterclockwise and clean it.

Also take a moment to inspect the drain pump impeller by reaching it in with your finger and turning it. The impeller should turn freely. Otherwise, replace the drain pump.

Click on the link below if the problem persists after cleaning the filter.

What does it mean when the washer flases F

An error code reading "F" indicates an electrical problem and "SUD" means that the "suds routine" to eliminate excess sudsing has been activated. The washer should restart once extra suds have been removed. Water and drainage problems usually mean you should check the hoses for any kinks or obstructions, according to the owner's manual.

An "F" code may require you to drain and start a spin cycle to drain the washer of excessive water.
    Hope this helps.

Won't finish cycle 21 F- flashing on panel

F21 error code is indicating that it is taking too long to drain water.

Your details indicate that you are using too much detergent or the wrong type of detergent and causing excessive suds. The drain pump can not pump suds out. The washer requires HE (High Efficiency) detergent formulated for front loading washers.

Cut back on the detergent and it will most likely operate correctly.

    NOTES:
    * After four (4) minutes the "Sd" error will be displayed, and then four (4) minutes later the "F21" error code will be displayed.
    * Press STOP two (2) times to clear the display.

    Possible Causes:
    - Using too much High Efficiency (HE) detergent and causing too much suds.
    - Using NON-HE detergent causing too much suds.
    - Kink in drain hose
    - Debris or foreign objects in drain pump filter.

The drain filter is located behind the lower access panel.

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord before removing the lower access panel and cleaning out the drain pump filter.

Remove the two screws (key#21) securing access panel. The filter cap (key#14) is removed by turning it counter clockwise. NOTE: Be sure that all the water has pump out before removing the cap. Have some large towels handy because there will be water coming out the filter/pump once you remove the cap. Check and clean the filter and remember to reduce the amount of detergent and the washer should perform as designed

Kenmore H3 doesn't agitate or drain reads F02

"F02" is a Long Drain error. If the drain time exceeds 8 minutes this error code will be displayed. In addition, a "SUDS" error may also be generated as a secondary error. This is an indication of a drain pump problem and/or clog in the drain line. You will need to check the following:

    1. Check the drain hose to make sure it is not kinked or clogged.
    2. Check the electrical connections to the pump and ensure the pump is running.
    3. Remove the drain pump filter and check for foreign objects and/or debris.

To check the drain pump, click on the following link for step-by-step instructions.

    http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

If the above procedures do not correct the problem, it is recommended by the manufacturer to replace the drain pump
