Question about Jenn-Air JMC8130DD Microwave Oven

Open Question

Jenn-Air electric oven hum

I have a gas-electric grill-range with convection (svd48600). My oven was working yesterday, but today it is not heating at all (the display shows that it is preheating). I hear a slight humming noise. I've tried both the broiler and the regular oven; neither element heats. All lights and panel options still seem to be working.

SOURCE: GE micro/ convection JEB 1095 loud humming when powered

Assuming your inside light and turntable come on when you try to microwave, I would most strongly suspect a shorted high voltage rectifier diode or a bad magnetron, or a loose and possibly corroded connection on the magnetron's terminal.

If you or someone you know decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

There should be a "mini-manual" (tech sheet) hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting, testing, and locating components.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Here are some links you or someone you know can use for test help, but read their safety warnings first:

(if it's not shorted or burned, it's probably okay)

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (1 year), G.E. will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

Sometimes they will send you the magnetron to do it yourself.

If nothing else, you can save about $50-75 if you remove it from the wall and take it to a GE-authorized servicer.

You can find a GE-authorized servicer by calling GE Appliance Service at 1-800-848-7620 or here.

Accessing some components for testing and possible replacement will require you to remove the oven from the wall.

If so, the installation instructions are very handy, and it's best to have two people since the microwave can be heavy and awkward.

You can download GE owner's manuals and installation instructions here.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

SOURCE: I have a Jenn-Air Gas-Electric

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. Error F2 in your range/oven means oven temperature sensor circuit failure. To resolve this issue you’ll have to check the oven temp. sensor circuit if the reading is more then 1100ohms then it should be replaced however, if the rating is fine then it is the Electronic Range Control (ERC) that has gone bad & should be replaced. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks
Rylee

SOURCE: My Jenn-Air microwave JMV8208AAS will not heat the

This is most likely the magnetron, the high voltage capacitor, or the power diode.

For an explanation on how these things are repaired, check out this website.

If all else fails, call an Appliance Repair Technician.

SOURCE: Jenn Air Microwave M167 Replacement Oven

I would expect it to be connected to the same electrical circuit as your convection oven so if there are no breakers that have tripped in your electric panel and the convection oven still works then their are 2 options.

1) The Microwave is connected via a Fused Spur (or possibly a Plug direct into a Socket) and Fuse has blown. This could be located somewhere behind the Microwave or in a cupboard to the side or above.

2) The Internal Fuse on the Microwave has blown possibly due to a power surge or an internal component that's failed.

First thing to do would be to check for the Fused Spur or Socket located somewhere around the Microwave. If you can't find one then you would need to remove the Microwave and see where/how it's power supply is connected.

If you could look at this and then let me know your findings we can take the investigation from their.

Jenn-Air Microwave vent grill opens and closes

I have this same problem occasionally. Pull the vent grill open and look for a white cam that rotates when the microwave is on. To the right of that cam, there are two gray switches. The bottom switch should have a red tab that pops out. When the vent grill opens and closes continuously, the red tab is stuck in. Take a flat screwdriver or tooth pick and push gently in on the red tab to release it. It must get stuck due to grease or dirt accumulation. Good luck.
