1. Have you tried another card reader?
2. Have you tried to read these on another computer?
3. Do you have a printer that has a card reader?
4. Perhaps all your USB ports are v1.1 and the inrerface requires USB 2.0, if so, try the USB ports in use by your mouse / keyboard.
5. Did you check [My Computer] to see if "Removeable Disk" is listed, perhaps as Drive E?

Memory card

I have looked at the specs for your camera and you should be ok, if you are using SD or SDHC memory cards. As far as the computer you are using to read the cards, not enough info. to comment on that. One possible way to see your pictures on the 4gb or 8gb cards on your computer would be to leave them in your camera. Use the USB cable and connect your camera to the computer. With your camera on it should recognize your card in the camera as a storage device at the least. Click on it and you should be able to manage them on your computer. Hope this helps.

San disk ultra II won't show up on computer

You'll have to go to Sandisk.com to verify this for your specific model, but... the problem is that some firmware versions won't recognize over a 2GB card. There may be a firmware update available. Find your product on the site using search, and then look for software updates. Don't hesitate to call techsupport (866-726-3475).... usually NOT a long wait, they speak clearly and they're polite.

An 8gb memory card to too large for your camera. It can't handle the large space on an 8gb memory card. If I'm not mistaken the s1030 can only go up to a 2gb memory card.
