I have an older Gateway PC. Model 703GE that has always worked pretty good. Two days ago, out of the blue, the audio quit. I checked Sounds and Audio devices and see the message that the Audio Device

it would seem that your audio card or audio processor chip has died. If this is a desktop (or tower) pc, you may have an audio card plugged into the motherboard (mainboard). This can be removed and replaced. If the audio plugs come directly out of the motherboard you should still have open slots on the motherboard where you can plug in a new replacement sound card. what you need to do is determine what type of slots you have open, they are most likely standard PCI slots. You would need to go to a computer store like Best Buy and ask them to point out a new audio card to install in your system it should come with a disc which includes the drivers needed and installation instructions.

Computer Audio

There are quite a few people out there having problems with installing a new version of windows and or re-installation of windows and loosing there audio driver for the sound. This can be easily fixed.

You will need to go to the manufactures website. EX:, ECT....
Than you will need to click on support.
Once there you will need to enter your model number and or serial number than search. ( DELL customers will need to use the service tag number, This can be found on an oblong sticker on the side or back of the computer. Some models have the flip cover on the fronts there will be a service tag under the covers.)
This should bring up the window for your PC(Personal Computer) Once there look for the tab or link for software and driver downloads. click on that link.
Once this is done you will need to look for a driver for the Sound and or Audio. Once this is found you will need to download the driver and click SAVE than run it on your computer. You will need to restart your computer and your sound should work.

My audio did not work anymore

If the audio was working earlier and than all of a sudden quit working I suggest making sure that it is plugged into the correct port, than restart the computer and try to play a song than. If it still doesn't work, sounds like your on-board audio card is finished. ALSO make sure your volumes aren't muted.

Card installation

1) Turn the computer on. When Windows has loaded all the way, put the Installation (CD) disk in your optical drive. Load the software.

No disk? Go to the Sound Card manufacturers website, and download the software. Now INSTALL it.

If asked to restart your computer -> NO
Close all windows, go back to your desktop screen.
Turn the computer off.

FOLLOWING Anti-Static Precautions, and computer unplugged from power, open the computer case, and physically install the Sound Card.

Close the computer case, do not forget to hook up the audio wires to your sound card.
Plug computer into power, WAIT 1 minute, turn the computer on.

2) Doesn't have a sound adapter card, and is just Integrated Audio?
Download AND install the audio drivers from Asus for that motherboard, AND Operating System you are using.
(Win XP and Win 7, are two examples of an O/S)

Need further guidance than this?
Post the Sound Card manufacturer and Model Number.
Also post the model number of the Asus motherboard.

T2042 emachines audio problems

It's easy to fix this problem.

Stop using the audio chipset on the motherboard, and install a Sound Card.

They are economical, and will surpass the audio quality of that eMachines motherboard, by a mile.

The eMachines T2042 Desktop PC, uses one of these TriGem Imperial motherboards,

Scrolling down you can see the audio is AC'97.
Not worth writing home to Mom about.

The Sound Card you obtain will go into one of those long white PCI slots.
(There are 3)

Any available PCI slot that is open, with no adapter card in it.

Here is but one example of a sound card that will work,

No audio device found on computer

No Sound, No Volume Control, Mixer not Found, No Sound device installed…etc etc, This is a generic issue with all Windows OS updates....many of the users are facing this issue....this issue began after an auto update from MS changed many IRQs of Win OS, mainly the Sound and Audio Control system of Windows.
1 - R U facing NO Audio / No Sound issue...?
2 - Is ur Volume Control not responding ?
3 - Is ur Sound and Audio Device in Control Panel Grayed out ?
4 - Do u get a msg "No Active Mixer Devices Installed....when u try to open Volume Ctrl etc etc ?

If ur ans to any one of them is Yes...then u are being spammed by ur Sound Control IRQ is being frozen by a recent update from Microsoft....

No file update or any sound driver update can fix it, neither Microsoft is issuing any patch to fix it…or giving any help on this.
Full solution is available in my website (Support page)'s quite simple process to fix it, and I am not charging any money, just trying to do some service and help everyone affected by this stupidity from Microsoft.

Hello there:
the sound card that is used on this computer originaly had the drivers downloaded from the original operating system cd or the actual sound card cd that was installed on the computer. and it is not compatable now with your new installation ok?
so what you can do is to go to the internet and download vinalac97
this is a free sound driver utility that will install a fresh sound device and it even has a built in mixer for you to use
once you start the download it will tell you pretty much step by step on what to do after the download is complete you will be brought to the installation wizzard that will install the device for you ** NOTE during the installation you might have a error message that pops up this is normal just continue do not quit ok?
after the installation is complete you willhave to restart the computer and you will be good to go from there ok?
I hope that this is very helpful for you.
Best regards Michael

Cant get my sound to work

If you go to the Dell WEB site and then to the support and download page you can get the audio driver for your model computer. To get the correct drivers for you computer you can type in the Service Tag number and this will then list the drivers for all the hardware components for your model computer.
Note: Not all drivers are applicable to your computer, it depends upon the hardware configuration/options that you selected at the time of purchase.

The Service Tag number is on a label on the back of your computer, if it is missing you can also locate this number from the BIOS setup.

Help I have no sound coming from computer

Hi, am sorry your having such a problem let me try to help you locating where was installed and perhaps re-installing it. First of all your gonna hit "START" or if you have windows vista click on the Windows logo on the lower left corner of your monitor. From there look for the "My Computer" and left click on it, once you do that a menu will appear, on that menu select the last option which is "Properties" in properties look for a tab or a button that says "DEVICE MANAGER" and click on it. If you have windows vista just click on the windows logo on the search bar type "Device Manager". that we are on device manager look for "Sound, Video and game Controllers" or something related to your sound. Hit the plus sign a menu will show, now left click on the proper link for your sound and hit properties. On properties for your audio go to the driver tab. There you go, you have options of uninstalling such driver, reinstalling the driver, or updating the driver. Let me now if I can be of further assistance to you. Good Luck!
