I forgot my username and password

Every router I have ever seen allows you to reset the configuration to factory default - but not allow you to retrieve a forgotten password and maintain your settings at the same time. This is often referred to a "factory" or "hard" reset.

When you initiate a factory / hard reset, typically by pressing & holding a button on the router - or behind an opening in the router case - all the changes you've made to it will be returned to the factory default. Wifi becomes "open" with no password (on most devices), the login username / password also go back to default settings (common ones are: admin / admin, admin / password, <blank> / admin, <blank / password, etc.). Consult your router's set up guide or online documentation to learn what the factory / hard reset procedure and the default settings.

Once you gain access to the setup pages of the router, configure it as best as you can remember, and lock it down with good security settings. At minimum - this should include changing the router's username / password, the WiFi's SSID and do not broadcast it, add WPA or WPA2 encryption and secure it with a security key (use a mix of numbers, letters, symbols etc.).

I suggest recording the settings on paper and then tape it to the bottom of the router. There it will remain out of sight - but ready when you need it.

Good luck!

HI JUST GOT A OPTUS PREPAID ANDROID TABLET FOR MY DAUGHTERS BIRTHDAY AND SHE PUT A PASSWORD ON IT AND NOW SHE CANT REMEMBER THE PASSWORD NOW THE PHONE IS LOCKED AND CANT GET INTO IT HOW IS IT POSSIBLE...

If you have a google account attached to the phone you will be able to reset the password by clicking the I dont know my password button after several incorrect attempts. If not you are going to have to reset it to factory settings. You can find instructions for how to do this here http://galaxytablettalk.com/galaxy-tab-tutorials/how-to-reset-samsung-galaxy-tab-to-factory-settings
Good luck with your problem.

Should be a tiny button on back, you might need a pencil to press it, just press and hold for about 10 seconds to reset to factory settings

Linksy router lem....!!!!

Try the following to reset it to the factory defaults.

Warning! This will reset all the settings in the router! Including any custom setup stuff, like WPA key, etc.

Turn the router on. Press and hold the reset button on it for 30 seconds. The reset button is usually a small recessed button on the back of the unit depending on which model you have.

Now you should be able to connect to it through your browser at http://192.168.1.1. Depending on your model, the username is blank and the password is "admin" (without the quotes) OR both username & password are "admin". Note that you will need to connect your computer to the router with a network cable to go through the setup process - you can't do it wirelessly.
