There is a problem with the circuit board of the device. Since the device is just 3 weeks old, I'm sure that it's still under the warranty. You need to contact the manufacturer for free repair. They need to check also the connection and components inside of it.

Have a great day!

USB IOGEAR not recognise

Most portable HDDs show up without drivers being required, so, assuming other drives or USB devices show up the general assumption is that either the circuit board in the enclosure has failed or the HDD has failed.

Assuming it doesn't work on other PCs and that other USB devices do, take the external drive to your local computer shop and ask to have the drive tested and moved into a new enclosure. If the drive is OK then the people at the computer store can simply transfer the drive into a new enclosure and it will work. If it fails testing you will likely need to send the drive to a Pro, I would recommend Armor-IT Data Recovery(listed in the FixYa directory).

You can swap the enclosures yourself if you have basic hand tools and are feeling handy but it might be nice to have the techs at the local shop test the drive.

If you need any further instructions add a comment on this post and included the make and model# of the failed external drive and I will offer further assistance.

Hope this Helps FixYa,

Chris

My laptop screen keeps on switching on and off and on and off and on....

The problem your having appears to be with your video circuit. Depending on your model's options this would consist of 1) LDC panel display, 2) video card or on board video controller, 3) LCD ribbon cable. If your laptop has an external video adaptor port, connect it to an external monitor and see if the problem occurrs. If the problem happens on the external monitor then your laptop LCD display panel is probably OK. If this is the case, you'll need to diagnose the problem further or take it to a repair shop. The reason it seems to work in safe mode is that the video circuit is not being fully utilized, ie.. no wallpaper, screen saver, etc..

Computer does not know external hd is there

How is this drive powered? If it is through the USB, then disconnect all other devices so connected[except for mouse keyboard] You may be make to much demand of the PSU. If it is separately powered then do this Start/Control panel/Ad min Tools/computer management/Storage/disk management to see if the system recognises it. Device manager to checkout the status of the USB. Check also the Bios to ensure the USB devices are on.[only if no other USB devices are running
