Replacement USB port for my scanner, how can I find the one I need?

I moved my scanner and the USB port that reads from the scanner to my computer is gone. How do I find out which one I need to replace it?

Re: Replacement USB port for my scanner, how can I find...

If you mean the USB Cable (not USB port as in your question) then you need a standard 'computer to peripheral' cable. It has the regular USB rectangular plug on one end (this part goes into the computer) and an almost-square plug on the other end (this part goes into the scanner.) I say "almost" square because it has two rounded corners to help with orientation.

As additional reference, these types of cables are commonly used to connect USB hubs to computers. For example, the USB hub built into my Dell monitor also uses this standard cable.

Usb connection problem

If it powers on and is recognized by the PC, then it is possibly a driver error.
There is a possibility that the USB port is loose on the board, or that the mainboard itself has a problem. You can wiggle the USB cable around in the port while it is on, wiggle it and turn the scanner on and off, etc. If you can confirm that it is the USB port, then you would be able to either re-solder the port on the mainboard, or go buy a new one and replace it.
This would mean, that you need to find a generic one that will work at Fry's or somewhere, and you have the electronic skills to work with a PCB board and soldering skills. The scanner sells for about 500.00.
If it needs too much work, might me time for a new one.

Need windows 7 driver for mustek A3 USB scanner

Here is the driver download area for your scanner. They don't show one for Windows 7.

But see here . Microsoft says it runs automatically. Why do you want the driver? If it is not working you probably just need to change USB ports. If it is a desktop computer use one of the USB ports in the BACK of the computer. It should work w/o a special download and I recommend that you try it that way.

If you only have one USB connector then you can purchase an USB hub which may have 4 or more ports (I suggest you get a powered USB hub). Then plug the hub into the computer's USB port and you now have several USB ports.

Computer no longer recognizes my scanner

If you are using a multi port USB adapter that allows you to plug many devices into one USB port it may interfere with the scanner. Try uninstalling your Epson driver then download the newest one from the Epson website.

Install the newest driver first then plug your scanner into a single USB port on the computer instead of the multi port.

Scanning drops in middle of scanning

Check to see if the computer has adequate RAM's installed to work with the scanner. Don't forget that in the background it is running scanner software, and the operating system at the very least.

It is also possible that there is a buffer over-run timeout error occurring with the USB port processing. There may be an IRQ address conflict. The over-run timeout error from the USB port may not be reported.

Try connecting a USB powered hub between the computer and the scanner. The powered hub will offer some isolation, and being a hub it has some internal memory with data repeating circuits. I have seen this approach fix a lot of problems with digital cameras and scanners.

If it still has the same fault with the hub, then try using the hub with the scanner on different USB ports. There may be an issue with IRQ's and addresses. Moving to a different port will sometimes allow for a different address for reading the scanner.

Past these options that I mentioned, the fault is very involved. If you do not have the in depth knowledge base about how to trouble-shoot this fault, you will have to get some assistance.

Firewire. USB2

Either or is my understanding- the scanner will accept either. I can see no need for both.
