I have just replaced the ice dispenser damper door per my repairman. Door is not springing closed/sealed because I have a little spring left over. Where does it go?

I think I just fixed it. Slipped the little spring onto the top left plastic bar which mounts the damper door and hooked the other end into a little hole on the white plastic piece the damper is snapped on to. The damper door springs closed now after dispensing ice. Is that correct?

FYI...Model number of GE refrigerator is PSH23SGPABS. The Repair Clinic item number is 1032671 and the part number is WR17X11653

HERE is the damper assembly blowout diagram - it must be an internal spring for the door?

If so, it goes on the lid. Inspect the door frame - as it should not come off. The pin has likely broken.

yep - thats the pin i was talking about.

    Thats where it goes.

I thought you meant the fridge damper - not the icemaker damper.

Yes you have the spring in the right way, and it is opened by the weight of the ice then slaps shut.

    Thanks for using FixYa!!

U seem to have a good handle on things but the flapper door is still not operating properly. Rather than create more agita for yourself, you just might want to consider replacing the assembly if not that expensive. OR experiment with various flapper door openings till you get a more reasonable refrig temp since 25 is too low. Aim for 35 - 38 degrees.

My ice maker is making snow in the dispenser area---What can I do to resolve this?

Hi,
I would look at the dispenser door to be the issue not the ice maker. This door if not closed will allow warm air to enter the freezer and create frost.
You would look into the dispenser door and clear the ice out, use a flashlight, open and close the dispenser door, if you see light after this. replace the dispenser door and or bar, spring, or other related part to the dispenser.
Good Luck

Ice will not dispence thru door.

Without knowing the brand and model # I can offer the most common solution.

On most "pass the ice through the door" models there is a flapper door where the ice dispenses. The spring which holds this door closed when you are not dispensing ice becomes weak allowing the flap to stay open jsut a bit. This open space will create an ice dam in teh dispenser thus not allowing the ice to dispense. The repair is generally made by replacing the flap assembly.

All the best.

Know how to put the ice bin latch and spring back together

I had the same problem. When you put the spring back on the little arm towards the button, use a mini screwdriver or something to pull the spring back and pop the latch part back in the indented spots. Then, it will seem stuck but you just put some pressure on the curved side of the latch - opposite from the button and it will "pop" back into place.

Ice dispenser flap/door will not close properly

I have a similar problem. The repair guy took a look at it and stated everything is working and did not order any solenoid or any other parts. After he left the problem returned where ice comes down the chute it tends to lodge and keep the door open. I am disagreement with the repair guy and am leaning toward the idea that the spring has lost tension and is just too weak to close with any authority. There is a video on how to replace the spring on youtube. This is what I will be doing next weekend and will try to return to post results.

Ge gss25jemc ice in door keeps freezzing up

Flapper door diagram is here, you can see how the spring, etc. work to hold the door closed. http://www.partselect.com/Schematics/GE/00113173i04.gif As for the crushed ice, (item 384) on the next diagram shows the little lever that lifts the side rod on the bin (item 329) to decide if cubes or crushed comes out. The solenoid (item 383) can get frozen up and not move. Take a look where screw (item 371) is, that little square window is where the device that lifts the rod is. Take a hair dryer and heat that area REAL good to melt the frozen solenoid mechanism. Test it every now and then by holding the door light switch off and pressing the cubed selection & lever. You should hear a very loud "clank" as the solenoid pull in to lift the rod on the bin.
